Broken MC Clutch Drive Shaft
My tractor sat outside all winter in a display at a local restaurant. When I went to pick it up, the drivers side clutch was stuck. I got it loaded and off the truck in my yard and proceeded to the nearest big tree to break it loose. I thought I was careful, but after I got it towed back in my garag...

MC In Hemmings
I had my two Metropolitans on the cover of the Feb Hemmings Classic Car, my Studebaker on the cover of the January Turning Wheels, the Studebaker Club Magazine, but the greatest was this months Hemmings Motor News. Page 56 in the March 09 issue is about my MC. Bill http://www.rustyrestorations.org/c...

MC no longer in the water
We finally found the time to get my tractor back together. Since there was traces of mud on the outer half inch of the clutch packs, I think there was a bit of water inside. Most of the water probably came in through the brake rod boots and drained through the plugs in the bottom that had been drill...

Fixing Brakes on MC that went for a swim
We worked the crawler for three days and the beavers worked nights. It looks like the beavers will keep my brother in wood for the rest of the winter. I brought the crawler home home and took the final drives off to get the brakes out. It looks like they still have about 1/8+ of meat on them. How mu...

MC in the water
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z293/clarkwd/TuggingFirewood.jpg A few minutes after this picture was taken we went across the little channel to pull out firewood on the other side. I wish we had a camera, but we were more concerned about getting out at the time so this moment is lost. We had th...

Crawler Loader in Junk Yard
I spotted this pup shown in the link below in one of the local yards. I was thinking of going after the crawler but leaving the loader, but before I did I wanted to check with this brain pool. The loader frame had a John Deere tag on it, so I assume it was the real thing, not some hobble cobble addo...

Froze in
Park it up on a couple logs or planks.

My brother said the worst job he ever had was putting a track back on a dozer in a swamp in the winter when he only had a couple hours before it all froze in.

http://www.jdcrawlers.com/uploads/img_5145_s.jpg I got the sheet metal painted and the pretty stickers on and have taken it out in the snow a couple times. After reading the stories about rigs left outside for a while and what happens to the clutches, I was worried because this thing sat out for ab...

Gauge Color
I bought a white face gauge for my 49 MC and it pegged High oil pressure. I checked it with a gauge and the oil pressure was exactly correct at 30. When I called the evil vendor, they told me that all white face John Deere logo gauges were made to measure low pressure of older tractors and when used...

Grandpas T20 (OT)
My brother related this story tonight he heard from our great aunt years ago. She said that if it was really cold and they knew they were going to need a vehicle the next day, they would drain both the water and oil, keeping the oil in a can by the wood stove. When they were ready to go they would d...

Grandpas T20 (OT)
As a kid about as big as those on the sleds, I used to go with my Grandpa to the mill. There were usually three adults, Gramp running the mill, one uncle taking off lumber and slabs, and one rolling up logs. The mill was powered by something like a McCormick Deering W30. My brother and I would get w...

Grandpas T20 (OT)
While looking for old pictures of my Grandpas MC, we found this one of him and my uncles Bud and Gil riding a load of logs down the road in Westford Hill, CT. It would have been about 1938 or 39. I'm sure it was a McCormick Deering and I'm pretty sure the tractor is a T20. Bill http://www.jdcrawlers...
