Thank you to everyone who responded to my query. When the weather here in the Northwest calms down a bit, I will try the recommendations submitted. I will keep you posted on the results. Hopefully one will be the solution I search for.

Thank you for the advice. I was debating whether to pull the pan or the head. So I'll go for the oil pan first. Thanks also for the forum. It is a great resource.

1959 John Deere 440 ICD won't start. Engine ran fine one day, the next it wouldn't turn over. Replaced battery, rebuilt starter, no help.
