Thanks all. Looks like I'm on the right track. I don't plan on pushing anything with it, just scraping my 1/2 mile driveway.

Advice on ripper modification

I was looking at the model 35 ripper that is installed on my 1010, and wondered if it could be modfied to attach a scraper to it. I was thinking i'd weld threaded studs to the frame of the ripper, and then fabricate some steel plates, with holes where the studs are. The trailing edge, and both sides...

Some clarifications: I'm not planning on joining the NHRA with this, nor jumping 10 busses. :) The word deluxe was taken out of the manual - I was saying that tongue in cheek. Its far from deluxe. I have a ripper not a backhoe, so i'm not sure why its there. The top of the battery clamp is missing, ...

Odd 1010 Deluxe Seat Arrangement

Hi, I'm trying to get my 1010 battery tied down properly, but the frame is missing some parts. Does anybody's 1010 seat frame look like this? I have both the parts manual, and the service manual, and neither one depicts the seat frame like this. (see Image) It has a scissors-like contraption under i...

1010 Glow plug health

Is the health of a glow plug a yes or no question? In other words, its either good (has resistance) or no good (no resistance)? If not, how do i tell if a glow plug is going bad? Is there some Ohm range that is ideal?

1010 Fluid Resevoir Lid

The hydraulic fluid resevoir cover on my 1010 has had the bolts cranked down so hard, that the bolt holes on two of the corners, have cracked out. This is the same lid that has the hydraulic fluid screens/filters built into it. I would like to replace this. Does anybody have one i can buy? Or a way ...

Argh - busted key

Hi, I just got done putting my 1010 crawler back together from some minor fuel line and electrical repair, and went to test the engine, and one of the tongs on the key was busted off. I got it out of the ingition okay, but the JD shop says there are two different keys: one for gas, and one for diese...

Hello again, I finally got my ripper lift cylinders back, and got them mounted. I've updated my website to show the installed cylinders, and hoses. Works like a charm. Next, i've begun the process of fixing the fuel tank and leaky fuel lines. Thats also posted under repairs. There are a number of mi...

So. thanks to all for the advice. Turns out that one of the plug wires WAS loose, and once i cleaned things up and hooked everything back up, it worked perefectly. BTW since the battery had been disconnected for quite a while, i did polarize the gen just to be sure. Its nice an hot. Got one sunny da...

Thank you very much, This all makes sense. I'll try these things and see what happens and post results.

I'm almost positive its a 12v.

Other symptoms:
The engine DOES crank over for a little but it seems to kill the battery right quick.

1010c crawler won't start anymore

Hi, JD 1010 crawler, Diesel, loader, ripper. Around October i finished with it and put it in the barn - nice and dry. It was starting wonderfully - even in the cold. Normally when you go to start it, the Gen light comes on to warm up the plugs, and then when you actually crank it over. Then it goes ...

Thanks tiny, i wish i had more time to work on the machine so i have something to update :-) But this crawler seems to do fine with all the tines in the dirt. As kahuna said, i'll spin before it lugs, but then i have really bald street pads. Not so good in the oregon mud. My worry at this point are ...
