Yes that is the economizer jet down there. You might want to buy a new one now and use it to guide you in removing the old one. You might be able to still screw it out, but Lavoy is probably correct that you will have to drill it out. If so, I would use a dull drill bit that will still cut the brass...

Did you possibly put a cap on the lower hydraulic line to keep dirt out while you were working on it and then forget to remove the cap? Gil

Starter fluid (in moderation) is OK for a JD440 ICD; it does not have glow plugs. When you say it starts slow, do you mean it takes a long time for it to fire, or that the engine turns over slowly. If it is the latter, you should work on that first. You need the engine to turn over rapidly for it to...

I appreciate you doing all the trial and error for use so we can just plug and play. Your brother's 500 watt heater may just have a lower cut off temperature. If they are like livestock waterer heaters they cycle on and off until their cut off point. More wattage does not guarantee hotter oil, only ...

Some radiator hoses are made of EPDM rubber, the same rubber used on flat rubber roofs. There is a EPDM glue that cements / fuses two EPDM pieces together. It is used anytime there is a lap in the roofing. If you followed gregjo's suggestion, perhaps you could permanently fuse the two hoses together...

I probably need one more for my gas units than my diesel but I was wondering. What cut out temperature are you designing for? I assume you are heating the water jacket. I always wondered how that approach compared to warming the oil in the pan so that it would flow through the oil pump gears. There ...

I adjusted the governor using a cheap electronic laser tachometer I bought on eBay. I set the low idle at 785 rpm and high speed idle at 1910 rpm which seemed to work best for my machine. Gil

CaptainJoe, You mentioned "along with seat belts and some zip tied foam on structure around the operator". On my JD70 skid loader I modified the cage so it would fit in my barn to clean manure. I used some of those inexpensive kids swimming pool "noodles" I think they call them, tied to the 2X2 stee...

How about this: buy a couple of hair blow dryers at a yard sale. Stick their nozzles in the round inspection ports in the steering clutch housing. Plug them both into a 24 hour timer to come on low power for an hour every day. The air will go out the louvers in the top plate. The air flow will help ...

The moisture problem with tires is a little different. Soil holds moisture and it may never really dry out. If a tire or metal is constantly in contact with soil it will deteriorate. The stone you use allows the moisture to drain away. The other problem is moisture coming up from the ground and cond...

A considerable amount of moisture comes up from the ground not just down from the sky. Keep a moisture barrier UNDER the crawler, especially if the crawler is kept under a tarp where moisture gets in and can not leave. Gil

With your bulldozer you can push out ground going forward and try to level it. With a light machine like a JD440 you will find that you cannot always just power thru and cut a flat path. I have my best success on a project like the horse ring you mentioned, to loosen the earth and bulldoze it flat a...
