didnt strike out. almost had a stroke though. JD dealer charged me $45 for the carrier sleeve. Hell of a price for a piece of exhaust pipe. Probably should have bought a bull nose tail stock center for the lathe and took a shot at turning down the OD of a piece of 1&1/2 id pipe. Thanks Anyway.

JD40C Engine clutch

Lavoy, got the pressure plate and throwout bearing you sent. came on Tuesday. In my haste I overlooked the fact that the throwout bearing sleeve and the return spring are toast. Might you have these items in stock?

Lever on the top left side of transmission is for the PTO. The
maln switch should control both the ignition and the lights.

My oversight, I took compression as a given. Spent 20 years working on lawnmowers and because you spin them over by hand you notice the lack of it right quick.

Did you change the cap? Do you have spark if you hold the coil wire 1/4" away from the block (ground)? You state that you lose spark if you put the cap on the distributor. If you have it with the cap off and not with the cap on what about carbon arching? That would be a small carbon trail or possibi...

$5100 for a 40c is pricey. Bought a 40c 18 months ago for 3500 (too much I found out). Had to put steering clutches in the right side cost $65. used and tracks. Lucked out and found a used set with about 50% wear left with sprockets from a 420 for $550. Did all the work myself (easy to do) and then ...

Eric, Don't waste your time welding bushings. Not worth the effort, causes more grief than good. Leads to increased expense ie, sprockets, idlers etc. Shop around, contact Lavoy he'll splain you the right way!

need help-rough running and wont stay running

check for a vaccum leak. Leaking intake gasket etc, carb gasket, anywhere after the carb air intake. Maybe yes, maybe no but worth a try.
