Other engine ofr 1010

What engines ( if any ) can be put in a 1010C with reverser ? We have a nice 1010 with the gas engine which burns a quart and a half of oil per hour and wonder if there is another engine that would be more trouble free.

We had the tracks off for repair so went at it from the rear . Whichever way, we weren't diligent enough when removing the reverser lever and the tube it is involved with and broke the cast housing. It wasn't too bad since we have a "wizard" with metal worker in the family but it could have been not...

My guess would be the thrust bearings, thrust washers and needle bearings in the reverser. Be careful how you remove the reverser shift lever!

Correct track direction

I have a 420C with full grouser tracks.. Which contact the ground first, the "blade" or the flat part of the pad ? In looking at the various pictures of crawlers on this site it seems that tracks are installed both ways. Which way is correct and what damage is done by running tracks backward ? John ...
