So, I looked up the CCA's on that portable charger. It's roughly 200. It was a big waste of time to try and turn a dozer over with 200 cranking amps. Sheesh.

450 Engine locked up?

I'm trying to ascertain if my engine is locked up. The battery is dead, so I bought one of those rechargeable jump starters with (allegedly) 900 peak amps available. I don't know if that translates in to cold cranking amps exactly, but regardless, here's what happened: http://www.flickr.com/photos/j...

Well, I paid more than 2,000 for it. Like I said, it was running when I parked it. Right now, I just want it gone.

FS: John Deere 450

I posted on this dozer in another forum on this site. It is too good for the scrap yard, but I don't know enough about it to fix it up properly. When I parked it two years ago, it was running, driving, and pushing dirt. I've taken the hydraulic tank, fuel tank, and battery box off the top, because I...

Fair enough. I'll post it FS here, and see what happens. It's a good machine in the right hands. Those hands aren't mine however.

Well, the trouble with that idea is that it's partially disassembled now. If someone wanted to pick it up, they couldn't drive it onto a trailer. The tanks are off of it, and the hydraulics are disconnected. It's totally rebuildable, but I don't have the tools or the time, and now I've disassembled ...

JD 450 parting out questions

I've given up on restoring my 450 to working conditions. The motor is fine, but the UC and steering clutches are pretty much shot to hell. Are there any other parts on this unit which would be desirable to someone? Should I just cut it up and haul it off for scrap? I hate to do that, because when I ...

Thanks for the help guys. I had removed all the right bolts, I just wasn't anticipating how tightly the plate was stuck on those dowels. The spring was a minor annoyance, but so far, it hasn't been that tough. It only gets worse from here though. I'm planning on jacking it up tomorrow and taking the...

JD450 - Getting the clutch assembly out

So, I got the hydraulic tank, battery box, and fuel tank off. I'm trying to get the clutch pack out, and I'm stymied. http://www.summertimestudios.com/images/jd450.JPG I removed the 7 bolts from the top of the housing, but it won't budge, and I don't know what else to take out. Ideas? Am I missing a...

If you get time, pics would be great, but there's no pressure on that from my end. I'm thinking that as long as the whole assembly isn't more than 8-900 lbs (which I'm guessing it probably isn't close to that) I should be able to lift the whole thing up and off with the FEL on my tractor.

Well, I might be able to get by with that on one side. On the other side, however, I need to replace the track tensioner and the drive sprocket. Thanks so much for your replies. As long as I know how to get started, I should be in good shape.

Really? I can pull out the steering clutch assembly and all that jazz without taking the blade frame off? That was one of my main concerns. I knew that wasn't necessary on newer JD's where the hydraulic cylinders, etc are placed inside the tracks. I just figured that on the older ones with that big ...
