Re: track adjuster balls

Lavoy, Any luck finding those hyd track adjuster check balls? If you have any it would sure save me more research time into finding the right dimension. Also, would you happen to have a manual which shows how to rebuild one of those hyd adjusters? I couldn't find a lot of information on that partic...

Hour meter should not know the difference as long as positive is hooked to positive on the meter. You will also need to change the wires on the ammeter. Lavoy Hmm, for some reason I had thought the case was grounded (i.e. tied to positive). Now that I think about what you said it is rubber mounted....

positive ground to negative ground

The 440 crawlers were all positive ground. I'd like to switch to an alternator which is only going to work with a negative ground. The only problem I can see doing this is the hour meter. The question is, will the hour meter count up properly when hooked up as negative ground or will it run in rever...

Brad, I found the guard, and it is like the one pictured above. By part number, the one you need is different. The part number you gave me is for the late 440, this cover is for early. Lavoy I think the serial # of my crawler is 459125 (I'll double check that). Looking at the parts book and compari...

Brad, If the pressure plate is that rusty, it will not be uesable, jut put a bar on it and pry it out. There should be a flywheel cover of some sort that covers the bottom portion, lots of times people take them off and don't put back. Lavoy Lavoy, I don't think things were quite as frozen as I had...

Pictures

Wow :D

Thanks for the detail pictures. Now to print them out and draw up some plans to fabricate from.

I'm hoping Lavoy has the governor guard for sale. That would save me from having to make that piece at least.

Thanks again!!!!

440 ICD

Ok, I give up, whats that white stuff...... Nice looking crawler. I'm jealous :D I'm a little stumped by your battery location. According to everything I've seen the battery for an ICD is supposed to be on the left front fender. Did somebody move yours or did it come that way from the factory?...

440 Frozen clutch disk

I'm trying to remove the clutch from the flywheel so I can get to the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft. It appears the pressure plate is frozen to the clutch disk which is in turn frozen to the flywheel. I've got the 6 bolts removed but can't budge the pressure plate. I've sprayed the ...

Anti-sieze compound

I've been following all these posts where people talk about bolts that won't unscrew, frozen or rusted in place. I'm wondering if anti-sieze is used when the parts are finally reassembled, will the rusting or freezing in place be a problem? Or will the anti-sieze cause other problems such as bolts v...

Re: foot rest

Brad, Unfortunately it sounds like all the small stuff is gone. :( As far as the curved shields go, if you have access to a sheet metal brake and a lolly column you should be able to fabricate one(or two). If you need the gage of the sheet metal I can get it of my machine. I already snapped the fir...

Re: maybe another source

Brad, I know the feeling of getting distracted at the last minute and missing an auction. There is a guy in Buffalo NY that recently tore down a 440 to component level. :( I emailed him about some stuff he had left over. I can ask if he has any sheet metal he might have thought wasn't valuable enou...

Re: Glad to hear it!

Brad, I envy you for two things; 1.) you're able to break down your machine and start working on it and 2.) you have some great shots of the work in progress. How are you uploading your photos in your messages? I've spent the better part of an hour trying to compress my jpegs down to a point that t...
