So i just bought a 1949 John Deere MC crawler for $1500. It runs really good and works as it should. There are issues but nothing that seems major. I plan to pull the engine and overhaul it. Tool worked great once I realized the center post was not for the steering clutches. Had a bit of fun getting the old rusted up adjustment bolts loose but all is well.

I found an old post with the service bulletin showing how to use the tool> I assume you just use a area next to the center post. since it is not marked.

I do believe that the width of the pads need to be the same as what you have or you will need the correct drive sprockets.

I set them to 0.020 and she runs like champ. the point set had a0.020 feeler gague included.

I am getting set to replace the points in my MC and need to know the proper point gap. I usually just eyeball them but figured this time I would do it right.

I wouldn't worry about a bit of pitting. I have a lot of pitting on my MC steel discs and they still work just fine.

I sold this MC to a Gentleman in Canada a few years ago.. He completly disassembled and rebuilt it. Looks real nice! Sure looks different than when he picked it up!!
