Re: Dropped by to say"Hi"

The shop project is an ongoing operation. The south side of the roof is about 60% done. I demo most all the original roof framing on that side and have rebuilt it. Just waiting for a couple good weather days to finish the framing. Then install the steel roofing panels. Then I can get the inside gutt...

15 - 18" of snow here with high wind and drifting snow. Used the Super-H to plow the drive and parking areas, Sunday. Yesterday, cleaned up the snow around the logsplitter and some more of the drive and parking area. Today, rain, freezing on contact with the road surface T 5AM. Still spots of ice on...

Re: JD450C - What engine do I have? Need to source filters

Chris, The steel supports are standard now, yours might have had one with it when it was new. Jim I built a set for a friends loader on his IH 80hp tractor a few years back. Used new Schd 40 steel pipe cut a 1/2" or so shorter than the stroke of the cylinder, notched the one end to fit over the rod...

Re: 350 sprockets for 420

Lets get some terms correct, first. Sprocket, whole part to include, mounting flange, disc and rim. Rim, toothed part of the sprocket. The teeth drive the rail. Mounting flange, the flat part that mounts to the axles flange via bolts. Disc, the spoked part of the sprocket on a 420 , between the moun...

Re: 555 exhaust manifold project

I would use a pencil grinder to clean the end of the bolt off and see if there might still be part of the head left. It does not take much to prevent the castings from seperating.
You can use a burr or a grinding wheel to do that but good burr is faster.
Happy New Year.

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

The steel panels are on the north roof of the shop. I do need to finish the trim and ridge today. I have to go get another 40 feet of residential rake trim, next week. I forgot it when I got the second batch of roofing panels. But I have enough to do the north roof.

Re: xmas

Ho ho ho
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Everyone.
We keep getting little blasts of lake effect flurries here. Enough to cover the grass and to make working outside miserable, but melting away by late afternoon. Supposed to be 40's and 50's by the weekend.

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Bruce, thanks. I am going to try to make more regular updates to this thread. The shop needs replaced but it is one of those things that had been backburnered for quite a few years. I hope to do these repairs and upgrades to make the shop more convenient and comfortable to use. Until I can build a n...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Update Since I last posted to this thread, I finished stripping the roof down to the rafters. Replaced one badly damaged rafter, plated another, and removed all the leftover nails. Then installed the north side facia board, installed first purlin, this one was set with a 6" overhang on the west end...

Re: gooseneck homemade vs mfgd?

Hmmm.... Homemade (by some else) My thoughts, are unless the axles have been upgraded from the clamp style wheel of the old mobile home hubs , backing plates, wheels and tires. Add at least $600 to the price for replacement of said, if you are lucky and the new backing plates fit the axle flanges wi...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Update Stripping the roof has commenced, with about seven different weather forecasts in mind, I decided not to wait for the "perfect" stretch of good weather to get the roof stripped and rebuild. Since the roof leaks as bad as it did, it was a craps shoot as to what would be worse the leaky roof o...

Re: Someone asked, so here it is. The shop rebuild and addition.

Weather not cooperating with the roofing job, but I am ready to start stripping the roofing when the weather is right. Both sides of the shop are cleared of materials, inventory and junk. Now that stuff is moved, I can move the bed liners around to catch the old shingles and nails when I start peeli...

Re: Start Shorting

Hate to say it, but it would be wise to trace all the wiring to find any other mouse eaten or bad spots in it. Had a local farmers 200hp Case/IH tractor burn to the ground a couple of years ago because of a dead short on the cable running from the batteries to the starter. Also you might want to dis...
