Re: 61 1010 seized gas engine

Maybe look for a good combine engine, that's what I did. Here's the link to my post on the swap.

Re: 1010 engine swap

Jim B, I have given that a lot of thought. One thing is that I don't see it getting that much use, especially were it would be a big concern. Although what I"ll probably do is just have the hole out the side, but leave the hose laying on the inside. On the brighter side of things, it does move forwa...

Re: 1010 engine swap

It runs!!! :D After a couple days of rain (working on it out in the yard) I was finally able to get back to work on it. Between it being a year since I took it apart and redoing some of the repairs that previous owners had made, (had to completely rewire it, among other things) it took quite a few h...

Re: 1010 engine swap

Update: I'm finally getting around to installation, so far not to bad. (not counting working from the side with a front end loader that won't hold for more then a minute or two) The biggest problem as of now was the backing plate. Before I installed the flywheel I made sure all the holes lined up wi...

Re: 1010 engine swap

Update on the engine swap. So far so good. There have been a few miner problems though, not a direct swap like I have read elsewhere. I had to shorten the dowel in the crank by about 1/2 in order to bolt the flywheel on. Also had to remove the hollow dowels from the front pump mount as the combine b...

Re: 1010 engine swap

Thanks, original possum. I guess right now the biggest thing that I'm worried about is if the flywheel will bolt up. That and the owner gets it out before it rains a bunch and then freezes and cracks something. (the top radiator hose is missing) He had drained the coolant (I don't know why) and I fo...

1010 engine swap

Has anyone done or know if a gas engine from a model 40 combine can be swapped into a 1010. The parts books show them as the same block number, but I do see a few differences over all. The biggest being the oil fills through the valve cover on the combine and it has a fuel pump about where the crawl...

junked 1010

I picked up a 1010 gas a couple months back as scrap. I'm pretty sure the only thing wrong was the engine was froze. After 3-4 weeks of soaking and some heating and then more soaking of the pistons I got them all out. Number one was the worse as far as being stuck and amount of visible rust. I had d...

Re: Track tension bolts

Has anyone used a threaded 1" rod to replace the spring tension bolts? I can get 3 foot threaded rod with a yield strength of 105,000 psi (slightly better than grade 5) I have used them on my 40. I have had no problems as far as bending or failing in any way. I will say though I have not adjusted t...

Re: 40c track

Thanks everyone!
No offense, but been there tried that, failed, and now own a track press.
That's what I thought Lavoy, but I figured I'd ask just in case.

40c track

Are the pins and bushings available for a 40c? (I see in a older post that the 420's are and the approximate cost)Also is there any way a pin good be driven by one's self? I know all mine are getting bad but I have 1 bushing completely gone and looking for a temporary fix.

I'm not at all familiar with the wheeled model. But my 440ICD did something similar. What the problem was, the reverser housing was loose where mounted to the transmission. Although I would think that on a wheeled tractor that it would be more visible then on a crawler.

Thanks for the contact info but I think at this point I'm no longer interested in repairing it.

I tried for over a year to find a shaft with no luck so I said to heck with it. I had tried here and over 100 salvage yards the only thing I could get were complete transmissions. With the cost of a transmission and shipping it was way more then I was willing to spend for the little work I get for i...
