420 crawler stuck in first gear

Have a JD 420 crawler. My father had just finished plowing with a two bottom plow when the tractor stuck in first gear. It stuck, according to my dad, while no load was being placed on the machine. I believe my dad may have accidently shifted into first instead of thrid to move the plow to another l...

Thanks to all of you but once again it was something simple. The type of carb I have is a Marvel type C. I had to open the high power jet more than what it was to allow for the fuel in the bowl to be pushed into the manifold. Once I opened the high jet it started and needed a final carb tuning with ...

I have cleaned the carb with carb cleaner. Soaked all the parts, cleaned, the jets, replaced seat and needle valve, adjusted the float to 1/4 inche and still no gass seems to be making it to the cylinders. ????????? I am running out of things to try. The carb is getting gas in the float chamber. The...

420 crawler not getting fuel

My crawler was flooding so I took apart the carb and cleaned because I believe the float was sticking. I made sure the float had a gap of 1/4 inch and everything seemed to be clean. When I reassembled the engine popped then would from that point. I have excellent spark at plugs and points. Noticed t...

420 crawler carb

I was wondering if there is a needle valve spring that is suppose to be installed in the carb for the 420 Crawler. Ever since I rebuilt I have been having flooding issues like the bowl is stuck flooding carb w fuel. I didn't think there was a spring in original material when disassembled but there w...

420 pulling capacity

I have a 420 crawler in very good shape. Engine is strong and has no problem pulling two blade plow in third. I currently have a pair of offset disk (six plates in each four sections) that I pull around in third gear fully cocked. The machine has no problem pulling them. I would like to purchase the...

Got real adventurous and tore the thing right apart. I examined the cylinders once i took the head off and wouldn't you know that there were two little screws stuck on top of the cylinder. I also took the manifold off and found the fly stuck inside the port next to a valve. It appears that the valve...

I have a 420 crawler and ran into some familiar problems, I hope. Here it goes: I had recently used my 420 to 2 bottom plow my fields in third gear. The load seem to be fine as the tractor has always been used in third gear for such work with no strain. While plowing for about an hour the tractor th...

I am looking to purchase a carb kit for my 420 crawler. I also need the throttle fly and screws. I also would like to know if anyone had a problem with thier throttle becoming stuck wide open? This happened to me and I was not able to decrease the throttle (sounds like a toyota). When I took the car...

Ok, Now I have a real problem. As Lavoy suggested, the threaded portion of my Hyrd tank is broken off clean from the tank. OUCH> Now can this piece be brazed back on the tank?????? Is there a way to make an adapter plate and secure broken piece on top of the tank with gasket and screws???
