When you install the cap you must have somthing that is obstructing the points from operating properly. That is the only thing it can be if you have not hooked the coil wire to the dist. and you lose coil wire spark to ground. Something is not letting the points open and close. You need to make sure...

I used a 30 gal. steel drum with a steel plate for the lid. I basicly made an oven out of it, I wrapped an asbestos blanket around the drum to help insulated it then used a propane burner to heat it up. If the parts that need repaired are small enough you can heat them in an oven. My propane oven wi...

Thanks Lavoy, I found that dimension, it was in the spec. part of the manual. I just didn't read far enough. So you wrap the spring around the shifter and attach one end to one side of the cover and the other end to the other side of the cover, right! That way the shifter finds neutral when not in g...

440 Steering clutch

Hello all, I need a little help on the following questions. I'm putting the steering clutch assembly back together in the clutch housing. The manual is vague on the issue of the throw-out bearing sleeve. Are you supposed to press the sleeve into the differential? Also can anyone tell me if the beari...

440 steering clutch pressure plate

My manual does not reference the gauge or how to set the pressure plates for my crawler. Does anyone know where I can find any paper work on this?
Thanks,

Gil you were right. It must of had a reverser in there at one time. I came home and checked the part number on the pilot ring and it is the part number for the quill for the reverser. What a bummer, I would have liked to have had a reverser. Now do I have the right shaft? The spline on the shaft mea...

I also looked in the parts manual and it says a ring pilot is used when not equipped with a reverser, but does not point out a seal or a bearing. I also do not have the blank side cover, it has the shifter assembly housing. If you look at the photo you can see I have a ring pilot, you can also see t...

O.K. I looked in the manual on page 140-25-07-Installing Transmission. That is the situation I have.

440ICD Rebuild: Assembly

Thought I would throw a few pictures out so you could see where I am at. Been kind of hard to do a whole lot latley, I've been putting a lot of overtime in. After repairing the transmission case, I inspected and installed all components back into the transmission. Someone had gone through it before ...

Thanks for that information, unfortunatly I have already installed the seals, quill and steering clutch housing. Since this is not an everyday use tractor I should be fine. I'll just remember to order seals with all the attributes to get what I want. I did notice the spec. sheet was from Timken, so ...

Did you say when the tractor was running and you removed the cable from the battery the tractor died? If so, this sometimes is sign that you have an alternator/generator problem. I would look there too, you may have a dead short or a wire crossed that is pulling your battery amps. down. I would also...

Thanks Lavoy,
Thats funny that they are so hard to come by. I say that because the seals for the finals are exactly like the old ones.
