Re: 350b Reverser shot?

Hi, I am thinking the reverser oil pump has a problem. It sounds like it can't make up the reverser clutch pack. Both forward and reverse need oil pressure. And it was said to have been low on oil. There can be enough friction in the clutch pack to allow the winch shaft to turn slowly when in neutra...

Re: John Deere 440IC Reverser

Hi, Unfortunately, no. The transmission is the central piece. To get it out, everything has to be removed. Engine, reverser, both finals and anything which might be on the rear (winch, 3pt). Since we are thinking input shaft bearing, pull the engine and the reverser and you can leave the finals on. ...

Re: SAE bolt pattern on 4-239 engine?

Hi, Nope. No SAE here. Deere here. They do their own thing. Probably because the engine has to hold up the tractor. Anything SAE doesn't have to hold the front end of the truck to the rear end using the engine and transmisson as the frame. Or, in the case of crawlers, the engine hangs off the bell h...

Re: Cheaper final drive bearing kits

Hi, There are all sorts of cheaper parts out there. And, all sorts of 'well, that repair didn't last long' stories as well. The saving of a few bucks on any repair isn't for me. The way I look at is, you've been there (whatever the repair / rebuild is) before me and you know the score. I will go wit...

Re: my crawler wont move

Hi, The finals have clutch packs inside a drum with brake bands on the outside of the drum. Each side. If the brakes are stuck the tracks won't turn. So, drop the tracks and remove the final drives is the place to begin. The brakes need to release to get the tracks to move under power. Same for when...

Re: 2-53 swap into a gas 440 worth it?

Hi,

Yes, the center frame goes between the engine and the transmission. Or, there is a direction reverser instead. Both are structural.

Re: Best quality points/condenser

Hi,

I have ign parts from Lavoy in both my 420c and M wheel tractor. Zero issues. Been in for many years now. I had a constant stream of issues with parts, esp the points, sourced from auto parts stores.

Re: Disasembly Weights and dimensions for Transport by Bushplane

Hi,

I got the sand in the box info from an Airborne museum in Texas. They had a display of how they used the Clark dozers in the Pacific to build airstrips. I suppose this is an example of using things differently.

Re: Disasembly Weights and dimensions for Transport by Bushplane

Hi, I guess that explains why Clark dozers came about during WWII. Smaller and lighter, they were dropped whole. They have boxes to fill with sand or dirt to give them more weight after they land. Much easier than dropping crawler kits! ;) This is quite a project! I would disassemble and rebuild one...

Re: 53 40c colour

Hi, Some owners get a yellow one and decide to paint it green as well. I have also seen machines in other colors for commercial outfits which repaint things in their colors. Unless you have one where it has been in the family since it was new, any color paint might be found. It has been a long time....

Re: Tracks

Hi,

Not enough track length for the down pressure of the 3 pt I think. As the implement is shoved into the ground, force is transferred towards the front. I think too much for the front idler on a 3 roller wihout another roller or two to share that load.

Re: stuck motor

Hi,

When the pistons are truly stuck, bust out their tops and yank them out upwards using a Ford Model A hub puller bolted to the top of the block. It's the cast iron oil rings rust welded to the bores. They come out a lot easier up than down. Been there, done that.

SAE? Not happening with Deere. They march to the beat of their own drum.
