Re: Blade skid pad shoes?
Hi, My dad had a set for his 420C. I had a set for my JD350. Same exact item. Used for snow plowing, where they prevent removing the stone off to the sides where (a) it does you no good in the winter -needed for traction- and (b) you don't have to move the stone *back* on to the road in the spring. ...

Re: 420 hydraulic schematics
Hi, Heh. You will, one day, find out you also need the M service manual for the 40c. Deere wrote the SMs for service shops. They presumed each shop bought them as they went thru time. So, there are things on the M that are the same on the 40 and so not repeated in the 40 SM. Same went for the 420 I ...

Re: 1965 JD350 with sloppy 6 way blade
Hi, In my case, I had differential wear across the pins and bushings. From how that blade was used the most. So I had to custom bore the holes and so custom make each bushing. Same with the pin wear. Dress each and wind up with size differences there as well. The end result was worth the effort, tho...

Re: 1965 JD350 with sloppy 6 way blade
Hi,
I did this on my 68 outside blade back in 90-91. Just made bushings as there wasn't a source for such then. Maybe there is now, but I rather doubt it.

Re: 450B Transmission and Engine Swap
Hi,
Nothing I know of is interchangeable between the 350 and 450 series. 3-cyl engine v 4-cyl. Different transmission designs. Different final drive units. Different track systems. Etc,

Re: Idler grease zerk ball bearing 450E
Hi, The ball is under that plug. The plug pushes it down to close the release hole. When you loosen the plug, the grease passes out past the ball and through the hole to the outside. it can be slow going, so many folks remove the plug and then the ball comes out with the grease and is lost. My exper...

Re: 420c
Hi, Well, I would be replacing the pins, bushings and sprockets at the minimum. Meaning 420c sprockets. I would never contemplate removing a link from the chain. And, replacing just those parts would occur after I went through the rest of the measurements on the chain, rollers and idlers. It might j...

Re: fuel additive
Hi, Yes, I think the crawler in question is a 350 or a 450. And, I agree, the modern diesel fuel isn't a clogging issue any more than older fuel was. Crap in the tank, on the other hand..... I've seen plenty of that on various machines. ;) However, it did jog my memory. If we are talking about an Ea...

Hi, Pump? What pump? These are gravity feed. Makes me think you are talking about something else and not Early Model JD crawlers. That'd be OK, but now we need to know what you are talking about. Like maybe you are talking about a Late Model diesel machine, maybe? But, then, I haven't had or heard o...

Hi,
Hmmmm. Well, oil get thinner as it gets warmer. I suspect there is an internal oil leak due to the spare parts you have found. So, the operating pressure is likely close to Not Working even at the beginning. Then, it doesn't take much to cause things to stop.
I agree with Lavoy here.

Re: Straight 550 serial number
Hi,
I don't know. I pulled the serial numbers from a JD Dealership trade-in guide. But, we have seen some other oddball-ness with other machines with respect to those listings.
Looks like there may have been some production in 1975 which did not make it into that list.....

Re: pic server DOWN
Hi,
Wait! What?
You had to get a Cat D6 for the JD Crawler pic server to get to working again???
Something here does not track.
Track. Get it?
Seriously, that sort of thing happens quite often, actually. IP address and such issues that is. Not buying a D6.

Re: JD350 thru JD350D Serial Numbers
Hi, I also think the tag is just mis-stamped. There was no definition for what C means as the second letter. B is a loader. So 350BC doesn't tell us what we have here. 350CB does. That old thought about oddball B series with wet steering clutches comes from an overlap is the serial number data. I do...
