Re: maximum degree of climbing, assent, descent

Sort of a " my dog's bigger than your dog" type question. All depends on soil conditions, track configuration/shape, operator skill, etc. I've climbed good soils in my 420c steep enough that the hydraulic tank dumps oil on my foot when properly filled. My 420 is "blade heavy" so going up blade first...

Following Stan's thoughts on the Distributor cap, Do you have the right one? I think some engines have the post positions in a different location from what your machine needs. Just a thought. Good luck. Paul

Re: 450C will not stay running

When I had diesel 350s and 450s, I came to the same conclusion: Pay the experts to rebuild the injection pumps. Usually wound up saving time and money, and a lot of aggravation. Made back the extra costs fairly quickly through gained productivity. Best regards. Hope you get your machine back on line...

Re: wallowed out hole fix

Which locktite product did you use? Go to their website and look at some of their less familiar products - some are more gap filling than others and have better adhesion properties. That said, a final drive takes a lot of different forces, and a good metal to metal bond may be the way to go, ie: dri...

Re: Rollers, Brake bands and track pins for 440IC

Fun to look at others' pictures. We all seem to have seen the potential in our particular project machines. Skinned knuckles, some sweat with more time and money spent than originally expected as a common theme. Then comes the satisfaction when a tired machine slowly comes back to life anew. Congrat...

Since no one else has chimed in, I'd think that if no water got in, the transmission should be fine. I'd check the accumulator though. Being high on the machine it may have some rust from condensation in it. It acts like a shock absorber during forward/reverse shifts and the adjustments can be finic...

Hi: Inside the housing is an adjustable link arm that joins the quill ball and cam unit to the brake linkage. This needs to be adjusted correctly so that the springs are relaxed and the assembly in a neutral position to allow proper clutch/brake functioning. The clicking is the balls going beyond th...

Are you located in Louisiana (71407)? Just curious, there might be a source in VT, but shipping might be pricey. I'll ask around. Paul

Update: Did a "motor test" on generator, nothing, which confirmed the separate voltage meters zero reading at the field and armature posts. Took the generator to a local rebuild shop, and he verified a bad generator. It turned out that as I suspected by now, there was a break/short in the field coil...

Cooter: Oops did that. Forget to mention it. I went back to an old post on this subject and re- read the thoughts of others. I have noticed that my crawler is running smoother at low speeds than I remember. Love the rythmic loping of a good running engine at any speed. Now to connect the final dots....

Hi Replaced the voltage regulator. The old one was full of water and corroded. Swapped wire for wire one at a time cleaning and greasing the connectors double checking with the wiring diagram during the process. Now my battery holds a charge while connected and the ignition is off. Parasitic drain i...
