help with putting brake bands on a MC

I am trying to put the clutch casing back on my MC and the brake bands keep binding between the pins and the brake drum. I did not know to look for this at first and thought everything slipped together & then I found it would not turn and got to looking and the brake bands are not sliding on. I need...

just a fun little coincidence

A week ago my wife and I went to an auction about twenty miles from home. by Star Praire, WI. The wife was selling out stuff that her husband had, he had passed away two years ago. But the nice tractors!! Not all shiny and nice but all ran almost perfect! I was rumaging around in a pile of parts and...

I have had the same problems with other clutches and I did the same thing, filed it smooth and it worked fine, I dont see why it wouldnt work here. I am just rebuilding the steering clutches in my M, but the slots there were really good.

Good luck,
Ray

Thank you for replying. I ordered the new clutches from Lavoy and they came Thursday, so I am getting close to putting the right side back together. I was wondering if I needed to adjust the pressure plate... I wish I could figure out how to add a picture, I would send one of the pins. The two pins ...

My new theory of what caused the wear of the two pins... I wonder if the previous owner had a problem with the clutches slipping, then adjusted the throw out bearing to allow the clutches to come in farther than they were supposed to be.. Now when I put in new fibers and new metal disks, I will need...

I might as well put in new steel rings too, rebuild the whole clutch with new parts. With some care, I will never be back in here.. and like you say, its a lot work and hours to get in there. I am thinking that the clutch pack might have been pushed in 1/2 inch too far... I do not understand how tha...

Thats what I was thinking.... but the bands are 150.00 or so... and I just wanted to make sure I was not throwing out good pads... The metal plates that go between each pad - those are kind of pitted from age, and have some glazing on them but I was thinking I could reuse them if I sand off the glaz...

Oily steering clutches

Well, the saga continues... I took off the fenders and tracks, got the spindles off, then took the right side cover off. what a mess! I cleaned out all the oil that had been poured in the dry clutches, I will order new plates monday. During the next few days I hope to get the left side off too, then...

Mc steering clutchs

Thank you both for replying. The engine speed does stay constant, about three weeks ago I witnessed this same machine spinning the tracks, so I am thinking it is an oily clutch problem. I was there while a cousin was trying to help some and poured a quart of oil in each top inspection plate.. I am t...

adjusting steering clutches

I bought a John Deere MC down in Ohio last fall and brought it up to wisconsin this spring. I have been working on it, doing the maintenance that seems to always get left to 'latter' lol Right now I just came in from tinkering with it a bit, I changed the tranny oil, engine oil & filter, and cleaned...
