You have a transmission rebuild in your future if:
1. Gear oil drained out is mocha-colored.
2. You remove the shifter, stick a magnet in the bottom of the case and come up with rollers, parts of cages and other suspicious looking bits of steel.
3. The input shaft moves around when you grab it.

Thank you. I had seen it and actually wrote an important detail there to add to Tigerhaze's excellent instructions.

Thank you. I never thought to look in the "new" section for info common to all track machines - like breaking track. Now I need to figure out how to post pictures. I never have mastered that in all these years.

Took the top off the tranny - very bad - input jack shaft moves around - roller bearing at the front of the shaft is halfway out of its outer race (see picture). My problem is how to break Berco track chains. I've got a nice shop but can't move the master pin no matter how much I heat and beat. I fe...

Fired up the 1010 yesterday - now the transmission works manually but the reverser causes howling and binding in the tranny. I used the machine for a couple hours moving dirt piles around in my "sandbox". It pushes and backdrags great. Tranny howls with a bearing noise in 1st and 2nd when it's freew...

thanks Stan - I'll have to check on the bottom plates. I don't remember. I almost addressed this to Lavoy... but I don't want to give him a fat head.

1010 oil filter gasket

I've got 6 oil filter elements for my 1010 diesel (#AH 1082 RT) but no gaskets. The gaskets are rectangular in section so they're not O-rings (measure 4" OD x 0.100" wide x 0.125" deep). My local auto parts store says the Deere number above converts to Purolator #PUR-L20003 or Fram #C138PL. Anyone g...

No extraordinary noises - but now-a-days we all wear ear muffs !! I have a second 1010 with a bad tranny bearing so, believe me, I know THAT howl.

I don't know if the two-gear-at-the-same-time concept is possible either but it gives me hope. All I know is that if Lavoy starts a reply with "Odd", I could be in big trouble!

1010 transmission issue

Did some work to my 1010 loader at the shop. It sat for a couple weeks with the footbrake set. Drove it 100yds to the back yard with the footbrake set. Started moving a pile of topsoil; easy work using 1st gear and the reverser. Part way into this I realize the brake is still set and release it. Aft...

Here is one guy's observations about redesigning VW glow plug wiring: IMHO there are several weaknesses in the original VW IDI glowplug harness, including: the full amperage of the circuit (50 amps or so) passes thru the firewall and thru the connectors in the fuseblock the copper buss bar makes rem...

This has been a marvelous bunch of experts for me… but once in a while, you run into a difficult problem that can't be analyzed any more. Short heat times was also suggested to me after I burned out my new set of plugs. I'm convinced I wired my second battery wrong to produce 24V. The plugs only las...

First I'd advise you to read all three preceding pages of this discussion. It is exhaustive and informative. Where did you get the plugs? If they're Chinese, you may have lousy products. All that is addressed here. All the hotlinks in all the posts are still good EXCEPT for Tigerhaze's post right ab...

I follow pickup trucks, excavators, welders and soil screeners right now. Life is exciting. It's a joke with the guys at the local diner. My wife will call upstairs to the office, "Roooob! Are you looking at porno?"
Well, yeah, kinda.

In my limited experience watching exciting stuff like "relisted items" on eBay, the second listing never does as well as the first. Obviously the seller thinks the machine is worth more than $7300. I assume somebody pulled a link out of the tracks, right? The idler could not be so far back on the ra...
