1010 front idler alignment
Now that YOU guys have fixed my "leaking" tensioner, which of course was not actually leaking but merely had a loose relief valve, I have to re-align my front idler. I wasn't careful in removing my little spacer shims. I think I have them straight but I'm not sure. The manual says to drive the machi...

1010 drawbar mounting
The bottom bolts are supposed to pass through the lower ear of the drawbar and on into the final drive casting. One of the 5/8 NC holes was stripped out. The other side looked like it had a 5/8NC insert through the drawbar, bellypan and into the final drive casting. How's this supposed to be?

(UPDATE: I see now I'm talking below about the front crossbar mounting block. It's possible to get to it over the trackframe. Anyhow, it's a trick that's worked for me.) If I understand what you guys are talking about, I removed the caps on my 1010 crossbar, ground a chamfer to get down close to the...

Now I get it. The set screw was loose. So simple, thank heavens for this website. I was ready to pull the tensioner. I also see now that it's all spelled out in my service manual. My lame excuse is that the tensioner in my owners' manual shows a different nut-and-screw type tensioner than the servic...

What set screw? There's supposed to be a miniature set screw up inside that little hole in the bottom of the cylinder? I don't get it. If you've got a plug in the top, doesn't that bleed off grease when you retract the cylinder? Or are you talking about some kind of pressure relief valve? What am I ...

1010 track tensioner
I've got one track tensioner that bleeds grease out a little hole in the BOTTOM of the cylinder opposite the zerk and plug on the TOP of the cylinder. The other cylinder has the same hole but works fine. I posted pictures on my Picasa website... along with some other questions I'll address in a futu...

Berco master link on a 1010
I can't find a master link on my Berco's. They all look the same to me. I can see both inside and outside of all the pins on both tracks. The only thing I've seen is one pin that has a small quarter inch hole in the center of a slightly different looking head - or end of the pin. This is only on one...

After beating everybody up unmercifully on the subject of how I coulda burned up four brand new glow plugs and hearing from our God and moderator Lavoy that they rarely burn out - especially all at once!! I've concluded that I hooked up my two batteries incorrectly at some point and smoked my new pl...

Stan, you may share "what you think you know" anytime with me. It's very interesting. It takes MAYBE 5 seconds for a glow plug to heat to red hot on the bench - at around 15 amps. Your Ford experience is also informative. I'm told replacing the things on a 7.3 turbo is a heck of a job - removing the...

Thanks Ken, "Regardless of the number of batteries connected in parallel, the amperage/current through the glow plugs will not change." Yes, now I remember this point also. To your point about "leaving them on for a long time", Stan was recommending "a few SECONDS" while the instruction plate says 1...

JD440ICD2006 was the first response way back when I first posted my problem. He suggested I glow the plugs with ONE battery and use the second only for starting. YESTERDAY it occurred to me that for me, this would be easy since I have quick disconnect battery clamps with big thumb wheels on the hot ...
