Button/Zerk
JD, I was only referring to the 440IC with my comment on the use of the button heads on the rollers. Oil was spec'd. for them. The rest of the tractor did not have button heads as I am aware. I would suppose that one could pump any fluid into the rollers at any pressure one liked. Then one would no ...

Button head fittings
I was always lead to believe that the button head fittings were for the 'oil' (liquid) in the rollers and not for grease. Either lub would be able to go through either fitting but the fact that the fittings were different 'should' alert you to the need to use the correct lub for each location. I'd t...

JD Industrials Book
It has some info on the older 2 cyl crawlers but mostly on the wheel machines. It does tell about the relationship of the crawlers to the wheel machines though, i.e. how JD (and others) modified a wheel machine to a crawler. Crawler info is limited to mostly writtten info. and a few nice crawler pic...

Age
Reply to Jones and Wattson: Lavoy is young at heart and mind. His age in years is his to reveal, and not for me to guess. As far as the relative age point... most all here are 'young' (er) than me. As far as the years of 'experience', I'd have to hazard a guess that Lavoy has more years of JD Crawle...

I Actually Met Lavoy
I was fortunate enough to drive to North Dakota and meet Lavoy. He is definitely a 'gentleman and a scholar' and well worth the trip. Put North Dakota high on your list of important places to visit. It was refreshing to meet a young man who is so into these tractors and is so willing to share his kn...

Lottery tickets
Alrighty... I have a ticket for yesterday that has not been checked yet and one for tonite that has not been called yet...if 50/50 is the rule, then what are my odds ?? No new dozer is the probable answer. It looks like it costs about 5% per year increase (compounded of course) since about 1960. It ...

Air Compressor
That sure looks like a Ford flathead V-8 engine with the front and rear cylinders used for the engine and the center two for the air compressor function...similar on the opposite bank I'd guess. Water pump with large (5/8") belt and ignition wire conduit indicates --1948 or earlier. Two sense worth....

Thirty-five years is way plenty for me to be convinced that it's a good design. Time with Dad was always good here and missed now, too. Although it is not Ha Ha funny, it is amusing how Dad always seemed to have the right answer for my dumb questions and they still hold true. Don't forget the pics w...

Factory Hoe Crawler
My 440IC gas is a 'from the factory' crawler loader with a scarifier (since gone) but still has the correct weights for the scarifier. Question to Lavoy is: What is the difference between a factory crawler loader equipped with a hoe and a factory crawler loader that is not equipped with a hoe ? I bo...
