440icd Steering Clutch Installation

First of all, Lavoy, the parts arrived. Thanks Now the fun begins. Starting to reassemble the machine. However, I never took the throw out bearing cam and quills apart to clean and inspect them. They seem to work fine and I am going to replace the springs and replace the throw out bearing. Any thoug...

What is the price for a used axle? Just in case. I have also heard about seal repair kits which use thin metal bands over the seal surface. The band is epoxied in place.

OK, thanks. Did a quick measurement of the axle diameter and it looks like the axle is undersize about 0.049" at the seal. Quite a bit of wear.

440 Axel

I have finally disassembled my right final drive. Gears are in very good shape. That is a relief. The main seal has worn the axle and created a recess on the axle shaft. It would except some wear but how much is acceptable? Lavoy: part list sent as PM. Need 14 fiber and 12 metal clutch disks for the...

Brad: Manuals have been very helpful. Sent another person your way for manuals. Yes, it has been a war to get the final drives off. However, the patient is still alive and has not been sent out for organ donation. It was very close for a while. Probably would have given up but then I would have had ...

440 Final Drive

Lavoy: After several days and numerous tools (some of which did not survive the war), the left final drive is off. Had to cut down between the final drive case and the cross bar bracket to cut through two of the bolts. One bolt was so seized that even after being cut and the final removed, I almost ...

left Final

Lavoy: Thanks for letting me know about that. I would not have expected that to happen. Got two of the bolts outs. Oil got in pretty good. Rusted badly right where I expected, at the wide center section. Seems the pilot/oiler hole concept works. Last one is the top inside bolt. Still stuck. I will g...

440 Left Final Drive

Lavoy: Thanks for the information. Will the rear fall down on a loader crawler when the left final is removed? I have the rear cross bar on jack stands but will add more support in the middle. The clutch housings seem to be attached to some brackets that attach to the footrests. Looks like these may...

440 Left Final Drive

Well I think I have hit a problem I can not deal with. Right final drive is off. Trying to remove the left drive. The 4 bolts (1 1/8" socket) that attach the rear cross bar support to the final drive are stuck. Tried a 3/4" impact gun, no luck. Heated it up, no luck, I then went to the old pipe exte...

440 Steering Clutch

Lavoy: Thanks. I will pull my left final drive today and see what parts are required. Already know the right side requires all new parts. Hopefully the left side will not be as rusted up. I think the left bearings are also better. Will know later today. Thanks for the offer to use your seal tool. Ye...

440 Steering Clutch

Lavoy: Just reviewing the bearing removal and installation procedures. For the main seal, they recommend a seal installation tool to insure the main seal is installed correctly. Is this required? Do you have this, or can one be fabricated? Will send you parts order once I get the left final drive of...

440 Steerin Clutch

Lavoy: How much are the clutch kits? Also, for the bearing kits, does that include all the bearings in the final drive? At least on the right side, feels like all the bearing need to be replaced.

440 Steerin Clutch

Lavoy: One last question on the clutch parts. The gear that the fiber disks are driven by is pretty rusted. How good does this gear need to be for new disks to function correctly? I will get the rust off but there may be some pitting on the teeth. I have not cleaned it yet, so not sure what it will ...
