SOLD - JD450 1960s vintage w/backhoe and clamshell bucket

SOLD - SOLD - SOLD - SOLD I purchased a JD450 a while back, engine ran well once I replaced the air filter. I never could get the clutches adjusted right. Now it has been sitting for months and I just want to get rid of it. I'd like to get $2500 for the crawler w/backhoe. Could sell the backhoe sepa...

I'll try to post to all three follow-ups at once, hope I don't miss anything. I don't know if the seat is lower, but I'm only 5'8" and I sit with my knees bent a bit. Then again it is quite a stretch to the clutch & brake pedal. The seat rotates completely around and gives just enough room to work t...

My fuel tank is on the left & not behind the seat...so does that mean I have one of the weird ones that was destine to be sent oversees but obviously never made it? I don't understand what you were saying about the engine serial number. I'm taking the floor plates out this weekend so I'll look for y...

Hydraulic leak inside battery box area

I've looked and looked at the connection inside the battery box that is attached to the bottom of the hydraulic reservoir. I'm simply not sure what to do with it? (or if there is any danger in loosening those fittings) http://www.thomastribune.com/jd450/jd450_hdro_leak.jpg And a close up... http://w...

JD450 Injector Pump dripping a bit

How critical of a problem is this and can I just tighten the lines or something? It is dripping from the connections to the body that go to the injectors. See picture, square surrounds problem area. I also noticed what looks to be ?choke? cable is disconnected. The cable goes through the firewall and...

JD450 Identification not lining up with other posted info...

Well I've been talking with the JD industrial guy here locally and in trying to communicate to him what I have I gave him info off an ID/VIN plate that was on the dash. Rather than calling me nuts he stopped by to get the serial number himself. In the process he said he doesn't think my JD450 was ev...

UGH...you guys posted two new responses, I love all the info and will try my best to not be dumb confused newbie. It seems I have to do some more trouble shooting to do. I'm guessing with 9700 hours on the crawler new injectors will be a good thing regardless unless there is a way I can test them or...

No, you didn't waste your breath (or fingers typing). I'm just so new to crawlers and diesel to know any better. I just saw three different suggestions as I took it and they were all different...but now it is perfectly clear. Thank you so much for the extra detail on the different types of injectors...

Can pressure washing mess anything up on a crawler?

Again a 1968 JD450, looks like I'll be doing some work to it & I was wondering if taking the pressure washing to it will cause any problems OR if there is anything specifically I shouldn't wash? Figure it will be messy enough...might as well start as clean as possible.

450 Injectors (rebuildable or not?)

I have a 1968 JD450, in a previous "am I crazy" thread it seemed unanimous that my injectors need some help. I don't want anyone upset with anyone else, but I'm new enough to all of this to need to ask for further advise. 1) Are the injectors rebuildable or buy them new is the only option? If they a...

The backhoe is the slider model, I don't know the numbers on it because it was getting dark. Sunny told me the piece that slides the whole unit from side to side was leaking...so I'm not sure what to do with that quite yet. It is currently off the machine but he was going to put it back on before de...

I've never been very good at 4x4 nor mudding as my "red neck buddies" call it. However the guy across the street has a bigger dozer, I better hope he is nice & get to know him. ***grin*** Oh yea and get a long cable. I'm going to go pay the dude I bought the JD450 from tonight. I'm pretty sure he ha...

I hope to get my money back out of it a year or so down the road after I used it casually to clear some trees, put in a driveway, and maybe dig a small pond on our property. Oh yea and dig a basement if our house ever sells so we can build. I live about 45 minutes north of Atlanta GA. Thanks for let...

Another new member & 450 am I crazy?

Well I'm new & will probably need plenty of help since I don't know the first thing about crawlers...but I just bought a 1967 450 from a friend of a friend who needed some money and I need to do some work the land I just bought. So here is the deal I gave Sunny 2500 bucks, I got an old crawler with ...
