The spring is rated at 45 lb/in. I don't have a spring checker to see how much pressure it would take to unseat the poppet, I think the lb/in measurement would say it takes 45lb to compress it 1 inch. Another oil pump question I now have is, what is the clearance between the shaft, drive gear and ho...

I guess I will put two shims in with the new spring and hope for the correct oil pressure.

420 Oil Pump

I am currently rebuilding components and have a question about the oil pump. Every thing looks good in it,( spring was worn on one side, and there were no shims). I just got a new relief spring and two packs of shim washers. (I was not sure if they still came 3 to a pack and they were only .29 a pac...

Nice job on the 420. I have a 1956 with an 8A on it. Starting a rebuild, just got the engine back from the machinist... The crawler is still together, I was just looking at winch mounts today to prep for disassembly. I can take some pictures tomorrow and try to post them, or just email them to you.

Thank you. It is in upside down and not deep enough. I don't have the driver, so it is back to my machinist 75 miles away.

420 cam bearings

I finally got my block back from the machine shop. I brought new cam bearings , and we installed them when I picked it up. Today I realized that the rear bearing is not in far enough for the cam (core) plug, also I am not sure if the bearing is oriented properly...the hole is lined up with the oil f...

That is right, I guess I forgot about starter placement. I will look local to save shipping, but there doesn't seem to be as many in the PNW as the midwest and east.

The AT10394T must be the late replacement p/n. It comes with some bearings, etc. If I don't get a 1956 block, my new single bolt starter won't work will it.
