need choke cable for 40c
Lavoy; The crawler ran great until the choke cable somehow touched the battery terminals. I turned the crawler off and believe the cable is fried as it will not move. Now the crawler will not start. I think it is due to the choke cable not working. Your thoughts and also price for a new choke cable ...

Blown Engine on 40C - need parts
Apoparently the intake valve broke off and thus caused damage to the piston and head. I am looking for a head and two pistons so the engine can be re-built.

My son was running the jd40 crawler. It uses oil and he did not check the oil. After about one hour he reported that the engine made a funny noise and then quit. He turned it off and summonded me. JD 40C will not start
I shut down my 40C last fall and when I tried to start it now it will not start. I took the opportunity to take the lid off and re-wire the machine, replace the battery cables and put in new spart plugs and a new coil. The starter motor turns over put it will not fire. Before I go any further I was ...

Paul; Thanks so much for the service manual for the winch and Lavoy thanks for identifying the bung holes for me. I was able to open four bungs; The silver bungs just under the seat on the right and left side were inspection holes for the bands and were dry. The third bung beind the seat on the left...

Lavoy; Thanks for the information. I will check again on the model number. I read 8-A, but my eyes are not what they used to be. It has a shifter so it must be an 8-G. Paul; I would love to have a copy of the manual, but I cannot find the private message. How do I access the message? Best regards Ra...

Gearmatic Model 8-A Winch
I have a Gearmatic Model 8-A winch on the back of my 40 C crawler. The winch works fine and it shifts into gear easily. It really pulls and I have to get the back of the crawler against a stump so the crawler stays in place while pulling a tree into position for cutting. My problem is the cable will...

Lavoy; You were right. the claw was off. I took the cover off and moved the gear rods around to where I thought they should be. I then put the cover back on with the claws in the position to fit the gear rods. I only put in two bolts and started her up with the clutch in. Once I let the clutch out t...

Lavoy; Thank you for your timely response. Here is scenerio; When first going forward, I depressed the clutch with left foot and it dis-engaged. I then attempted to shift into reverse and the shifter moved into the neutral position, but would not go into reverse. I then let out the clutch and that i...

40C Stuck in first gear
Just a quick history. I bought the 40c about March 2009. At first it ran fine but then did not turn over. Took starter off and bushings were fine. Finially traced the problem to a direct short to the copper stud in the starter box. Fixed that and after changing some wires and installing new battery ...
