no 4th gear
just a guess; don't know where machine came from, but as an operator, I've ran machines with 4th gear blocked out just for the reason of not running them in 4th. Too much unnecessary wear and tear.

slippage of steering clutch
Take a look at your steering cylinders under the seat and see if one or both are leaking because the oil will get down between the casings and in that steering clutch housing. Pull 1/4" pipe plug out of bottom and see if oil got in that casing. Don"t pull the wrong plug (for the final drive!) I leav...

What you might want to check is pull the pipe plug out on the bottom of the steering clutch housing and see if there is any fluid of any kind in there. it is a dry casing but what happened on one of mine there was a hyd leak up top under the seat and the oil ran thru thecrack between the casing and ...

check for water
check both dip sticks on floor of operator compartment, but also check for h2o in units, my mach sat out side for so many years with snow build up and melting, the water ran thru the dip stick holes and the units were full of water not oil !!

With air tools 20 ton and floor jacks, wood blocking 4 and 6", pin driver with sledge ( make sure master pin is at the frt of the frt idler) Don't need to totally drop pan, just loosen enough to get bolts out of final, my brother and I can have it on the ground in an hour.
