JD 420 For Sale

I am going to sell a John Deere 420 crawler that is a '58 with four rollers and a five speed transmission. I just replaced the gears in the left side final drive, bearings and the final drive housing. The radiator was flushed. The breaks are good on it. It has really good tracks on it. It has a blad...

Battery

I am wondering about what to do about a battery for my 420 crawler. I know it is supposed to use a 6 volt but cannot find one that would work. Should I use a 12 volt?
Thanks GC

The person who owned my 420 must have agreed with you on working faster. It was painted green but now has a yellow coat over it. Every time I wash it more of the yellow paint comes off and the green comes through. I may not even have to repaint it green at this rate

I had a tach worked on by a guy I take my starter and generators to. He pulled the glass of and cleaned the face of it and got it working again. He did a nice job shining it up without having to repaint it. He was also able to build a new cable for me and check it. I am thinking about laser cutting ...

John Deere 420 Tracks

I have a four-roller 420 that I am having trouble getting the tracks to line up (pull tight) enough to get the pin through them. Does anyone have a tip or suggestion of how to make this work a little easier.
Thanks in advance

420 Final Drive

I am getting ready to replace the gears in my final drive housing and I am not sure what to do about packing the bearings. Does the final drive usually have oil in it that lubricates the bearings or should I go ahead and pack them?

420 Final Drive Assembly and Bearings

Does anyone know where I can buy bearings for my late '58 420? I need all of the bearings and parts for the axle shaft, including the oil seal and shims, but I do not need a spacer. I can list part numbers if needed. Someone who owned the crawler previously left their 1/4 inch socket in the housing....

I am just checking, but did you look to make sure your snap ring was not smashed so that it looks like one of the other pins. I just removed the tracks on my 420 crawler and missed it (the master link) the first time like Lavoy said because the ring looked just like the other ends on the pins. Did y...

Thanks for the help. I am just new to crawlers. I have a parts manual which has already helped me alot. I plan on restoring it, so I am sure I will probably learn alot along the way.
