440 ICD for sale

I bought this thing several months ago from the previous owner who claimed the engine would not run. The engine runs fine now, 2-53 Detroit. The real problem with it is the transmission. The gears are not torn up or anything, but the input shaft is stuck or bound somehow and will not turn. It does n...

The injectors will have a tag on them telling you the size. one word of caution--do not over tighten the fuel lines when connecting the new ones. Cracked fuel lines are one of the most common problems leading to fuel in the oil.

The oil issue is real and could be some of your problem but I doubt it. I would bet that you have an injector that is trying to stick. Since the only way to find it with certainty requires you to be able to shut it off while it is running away--hence the air intake flapper. I would heartily recommen...

440 ICD Transmission

I know this is going to be a long shot, but does anyone know of a good transmission (5 speed) for my 440 ICD? Mine is all there but is going to need a complete rebuild and I would like to avoid having it torn down for what might turn into months while I chase parts. I would be willing to drive a goo...

I realize this is an old post and I hope you have since cured the problem. If you have not, the first thing to do is put in fresh oil so you can start the engine safely. Then remove the valve cover and watch for fuel bubbles floating around in there around the fuel lines the connect to the injectors...

First make sure you have fuel in the carburetor when it quits. You might have fuel at the filter but not at the carb. Assuming that it is not a fuel problem, the next time it quits, QUICKLY check and see if you have spark. It sounds like it might be either the coil or the resistor on the coil (if it...

A good machine shop will be able to repair your splines. The cost will depend on your locale as much as anything else. These things tend to vary widely from market to market. It might be your only choice though.

I worked for a short time for a dealer and I was downright ashamed to see some of the customers come to pick up their stuff. Outrageous was an understatement for some of it. But they do have a lot of overhead.

Thanks much fellas. A teardown it is gonna be. I have no desire to do a total restore at this time, since I want to use this thing a bit, but I also do not like to half do things. While it is down, I will fix what I take apart, and will add a reverser if I can find a good one that is not too expensi...

Thanks to JimAnderson and Shinnery for your comments. I have finally gotten back to look at the thing again and sort of narrowed down the problems. Your advice on the clutch pedal was on the money and I will get that sorted out. I took the top off the transmission and had a look-see. It was not lock...

Interesting problem with 440 ICD

I recently acquired a 440 ICD that had been sitting in a barn for some time. The only info I could get out of the previous owner was that it would not run. I got it to run in short order (2-53 Detroit) but it has a curious problem in the clutch or transmission. We pulled it along with a farm tractor...
