The brillant minds were right once again. I removed the starter, which on a 350 is a real task, decided to remove the selenoid and being curious opened it up and there lay the problem. It was extremely corroded and the two wires, one to the S terminal and one to the lug going to the starter motor, w...

Engine Removal

I need to remove the engine from a parts machine, a 350 loader(straight), to install in another machine ( a dozer). Is this usually done with or without removing the loader assembly (bucket, lift arms ect.). I have limited shop overhead space, not enough to raise the bucket high enough to work under...

350 Engine slow to turn over

I have a parts machine (350 diesel loader) that the engine is said to be good and was running when parked (about a year ago). Its been outside all this long, but covered, so I don't think a lot of water has gotten into the engine. I want to get it started so I can load it. Tried to start it but seem...

The Lord looks out especially, for poor folks and the foolish. Found a donor machine local, with a running engine at a price no one could complain about.

After looking again, the crack stops just past where the sleeve seats in the block and does not extend into the main bearing journals. They are hairline cracks barely visible. Would some sort of stop leak work? Man, I'm desperate, don't have a lot of money and its too good of a tractor to salvage or...

350 Cracked Block

After completely disassembling my 350 engine (straight) for overhaul, I find that the block is cracked on either side of number two cylinder, from the top all the way down to where it opens into the crankcase. The block is very thin in these two areas. I discovered this after removing the sleeves an...

350 Power Steering

I recently purchased an early model 350(straight) dozer. It has power steering, but as I began to tear it down for an engine rebuild (which I knew I had to do when I bought it); I found the steering system was not and had not been working for some time. Some of the lines were even disconnected, whic...

Farmerford, glad to know there is someone near by ( I live near Shiloh, about 30 miles north of you) who has an interest in JD crawlers. We'll have to talk more sometime.

I think that's why we're in this mess; nobody wanted to open the can of worms or either was scared to. A number of the so called members up there need to be in a nursing home or a straight jacket one or the other.

Lost Identity

I just bought a 350(straight) diesel, with an inside track dozer blade. The engine needs a complete over-haul, which I knew about when I bought it. The problem is both the serial number for the tractor and the one on the engine are missing. (strange as it may seem) I'm going to need an over-haul kit...

Thanks Lavoy. Then if mine is making noises, its not because of low oil level. Ain't it fun.

Reverser oil level

On a 420 with a reverser (non-hydraulic), is it possible to check the oil level in the reverser without splitting the tractor? If it"s not possible, how important is it to check the level, since its so difficult to get to?

Stuck Engine

This may be an individual question with many variables, but if anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate hearing them. If a 350 Diesel engine runs hot, for whatever reason, hot enough to seize; does this always mean the engine has to be replaced? I know there are many variables, but generally, at ...
