350 Deal

I have an opportunity to buy straight 350 somewhere around a 69 or 70 model. IT is a diesel but the engine is shot (ran it hot and seized). However, he has another engine in a parts machine that is good, and will sell also. The undercarriage is good, steers good, and has a manual 6 way blade, has ro...

A cord of wood is 128 cubic feet in volume. A stack of wood 4ft. high 4ft wide and 8ft. long would equal a cord. Most firewood is cut 24 inches or so in length so, two stacks of 24 inch wood 4ft high and 8ft. long would equal one cord. The stack should relatively tight and with only normally expecte...

It was 13 degrees F. at my house in West Central Georgia this AM.
If this global warming continues, we're all going to freeze to death.

I have one, an older model, late 60s. It was a basket case when I got it, I went thru it and completely restored it. They are a product of C.F. Struck Corp., PO Box 307 Cedarburg Wis. Parts are still available for most models, although expensive. They are made extremely heavy duty for their size and...

Thanks Lavoy for the reply. Your right, from research I have been able to do.
Think I want to keep the 420 all JD anyway.

Blade Question

Found an outstanding deal on a blade off Int.340. Would it be too much for a JD 420c to handle if it could be adapted to fit?

I just rebuilt my clutch assemblies, new discs (both metal and fiber), new pressure plates, throw-out bearings, sleeves and new brake bands. When I got it back together I adjusted everything by the book. I have it on blocks sprockets, tracks and carriers removed. Started the engine, put it in gear l...

Track carrrier parts

Lavoy, would you happen to have the caps (eight) for the clamps that hold the cross-members to the track carriers on a 420c, also the caps for the clamps (four) that hold the cross members to the side plates, same tractor. I bought the tractor disassembled and these parts were not with what I got. W...

Thanks for the replies. If I ever get the clutches, brake bands and seat fixed and the carriers and tracks back on, I plan to "work the snot out of it." I removed and disassembled the right final today. The clutch housing was a fourth full of dirt which had been wet at some time in the past, and mos...

Engine Overhaul???

After test running my 420 engine for a while, I notice thick black oil (like paint) coming thru the exhaust. I checked the compression on the the cylinders; front was 100psi, the other was 90psi. Would this indicate that the engine needs an overhaul? It has been sttting up for 20 or so years prior t...

My mistake. The multi-position ignition switch which is also missing is where the resistor is located. Need same information requested in initial post. Thanks

420 wiring/resistor

The tach/ speed indicator gage was missing on my 420 when I got it. I believe there was a resistor attached to the back of this gage. I'm doing some test runs of the engine without the generator as it needs repair also. Will I damage the coil or anything else doing this? Is this resistor necessary? ...
