I have a parts and service manual in pdf for the C-3 carco which is similar to the C-2, only slightly newer. Most of the internal gears are the similar. Most of the changes were to the brake system. The older C-2 is a one piece band and the C-3 is two pieces so it's easier to replace - just remove t...

Track Tension

After rebuilding both finals and upper idlers on the 420c five roller, the tracks are back on and adjusted with 3/4 inch sag between the upper and front idler as per the jd manual. In your experience, is this the proper tension or should they be run a little looser or tighter? I plan to re-adjust th...

Any carco winch experts....

Will a carco model C series 3 winch bolt up to a Carco model C series 2 adapter? I have a series 2 winch on my 420c with some bad internal gears and bearings. I've located a model C series 3 winch that came off of a Case 310. I contacted Paccar but haven't got any response from them.

Thanks Ralph,
I'll put together a list of parts I'm looking for and e-mail it to you. Probably be up your way later this month. You don't have any parts for a carco winch do you - looking for the hand brake linkage for a C-2 or C-3.

Upper Idler - 420c

Any ideas about rebuilding upper idlers? I have one that has been worn flat to the point where it is not only out of round, its completely worn through on one side. Any body know the dimensions of a new upper idler in case I get a chance to shop around for a used one?

Thanks Guido, after I wash it up I'll get some estimates. I'd like to get the winch running again. It's my dad's old crawler and I can remember as a kid setting chokers behind him. That winch can pull in some pretty good sized logs.

Does anyone have any experience getting stripped gear splines repaired. I'm hoping a machine shop could build the material back up with welds, turn it and cut the splines. Is this possible? What kind of money are we talking about? Luckily, all the other gears were untouched when the bearing disenteg...

Unfortunately, they don't go back that far with their online manuals. If anybody has a manual for the model c winch that they'd like to scan, I'd be interested in buying one.

Carco winch on 420c

I have a carco model c winch that I am in the process of tearing down. I have the drum off, but I can't get the two pins out that hold the brake band to the brake linkage. I can't tell if they are tapered pins or what? I don't have a manual for the winch so I'm learning as I go. Any ideas or suggest...
