Re: 1966 straight 350

15W-40 diesel oil, assuming you have a diesel. If you like synthetic, then 5W-40 like Rotella T6.

Correct on the filter. I normally use diesel or kerosene to flush.

Sucks to be them, but life is hard, harder when you are stupid. Lack of courtesy is really disappointing, and I would have done the same thing you did, it is just a matter of principal.

Re: LGP tracks and then some

When you drain the oil, leave the plug out for a while and watch to see if you get any antifreeze draining out the next day. Not always a good test, but have had it work.

Re: To buy or not to buy

I would think tracks, crossbars and extensions should be worth about what you paid for the crawler. Almost impossible to find good ones any more.

Re: Backhoe Fitment on 1976 JD450C

First you need to determine if your crawler is set up as a hoe crawler. Unless you have the large pump, the bypass valve, and the hoses on the back of the crawler that run the hoe, it is not just an issue of finding a hoe. As far as the Case hoe, I highly doubt it is a direct interchange with Deere....

Re: Plasma cutters

I don't use mine that often, but I do use it, and they are handy. My advice to anyone is to get a 5/8" or bigger rated machine. What they rate them as is "sever", so deduct 1/8" or so, and that is what they will cut slowly. I've got a 60 amp, would really like an 80 amp.

Re: Hi Ho,Hi Ho it's off to work...

Waiting for Spring to show up, low teens here, single digits at night for another several days. I have our snowmobile clubs groomer here. Need to do Spring service before it goes to bed for the Winter. The back axle on the drag is bent two different directions, we just got permission from the State ...

Re: 450b Undercarriage rebuild and steer clutches

$800 for a pair of sprockets and turning the pins and bushings seems awfully cheap to me, I would make sure somebody didn't miss something there.

Re: 350c noise

Someone else may have a different opinion, but I would consider it virtually impossible to be related to "cheap" fluid. The cheap fluid is often made by the same manufacturer as the regular fluid. Wal-Mart doesn't have a refinery, they buy their oil from an manufacturer that makes for multiple label...

Re: spring? here?

Single digits at night here for the rest of the week, most days below freezing, or just barely above. Above average snow for March, poor snow the rest of the Winter, figures. Frost still down 2-3' from what I hear, going to be a late Spring, 60 degrees at least two weeks out as of now.

Re: Ignition / distrubutor problems??

I find in the cold temps I usually have to run an extra half turn open on the load jet on occasion. Other than that, replace the plugs, and small matter, but did you use carbon core, or metal core wires? Really should not be an issue, but I only use metal core.

Maybe relevant, maybe not, but lots of the comments here as to "putting up" with her and her problems probably is being talked about on a menopause board someplace by women who have had to put up with their husbands crawler habit for more than the 10 years or whatever because we never age out of it!...

Re: JD 455G Crawler Loader Questions.

Life expectancy varies drastically with area and usage. I knew an old track man in WI years ago, and in the bogs they would get 400 hours on a set of pins and bushings, turn them, run another 400 and throw the tracks away. Loader crawler will have accelerated wear compared to a dozer. Unless it has ...
