Re: JD 420C Track Project

You use the tracks off of a D21 Komatsu, or BD2G Mitsubishi, and the weld on sprocket rims off of the Mitsubishi. You can no longer run rock guards unless you cut them off due to clearance issues. This will only work on 5 roller crawlers, nothing else as the tracks can not be shortened like steel tr...

Re: 1966 straight 350

You don't "clean" diesel injectors, they are rebuilt, or replaced. If you got to the work of pulling them, I would buy new ones.

Re: 440 Parts.. In Alaska

You will spend way more in cobbling in an engine that does not bolt up to the Deere bellhousing, and all the other incidentals necessary for the conversion. Then you have the hyd pump issue as well. The only one of the throttle parts that won't fit in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box for $16 or so is t...

Re: 420c Hydraulic Control

I think we have a terminology issue as well. PTO stands for Power Take Off, which is the power shaft on the back of the crawler for running implements. 3PT is the hitch on the back for lifting mounted implements, I believe this is what you are talking about?

Re: 440 Parts.. In Alaska

There is not much on the planet easier to get parts for than a 2-53 Detroit. Only other engine choice is original gas engine.

Re: 420C Upper Idler Assembly Needed

I have them and parts on hand. No need to replace support, just put in new shaft, then replace idler. I had responded to your PM a while ago.

Re: 420c not shifting into gear

102XXX crawler could have had reverser from factory as an option, or they can be field installed. Trans would always have a reverse on all 2 cylinder crawlers regardless of reverser, just don't use reverse and reversed at the same time to make another forward gear. I also do not use the reverser whe...

Re: 420c not shifting into gear

There is no cure for an oil soaked clutch other than replacement. Just like putting sawdust in a rear end, might quiet it down, but did nothing to address the problem.

Re: 440 reducer

Straight shaft and coupler are not a lot more readily available then reverser parts, and are not cheap either.
If you have not already, get a factory, NOT I & T, service manual, and a parts book, you can't do the job without them.

Re: 420c not shifting into gear

The only place you can get penetrant in to do any good is on the left side of the clutch pedal and where the brake pedal shaft comes through on the LH side, where shaft 18 goes through sleeve 12. If you can get it to move, you drive the groove pin out of the brake pedal and see if you can get it loo...

Re: 440 reducer

Yes there is an engine clutch, the 440 is a wet type reverser, not a hydraulic reverser, so the clutch pedal must be used each time it is shifter.
Is it necessary, neither is AC or power steering in a car, but sure makes life easier.

Re: Ohio Weather

Yeah, stuff is a little bit stiff at 35 below. up to -12 now, and heading for 20's above for a few days, that will feel much better. It will be almost a 60 degree swing in 4 days.
