440 vs 1010 Finals

Hi Folks,

My 440 has the late 1010 style finals. Much heavier than the earlier ones. Does anyone know if any final from a 1010 would work? The finals look the same but they have bolts for the fenders on a 1010.

Broke my oil pan and took a tooth off the bull gear:(

Thanks.

Re: 440 for sale in NY

Yes tracks look tight and no reverser...at least one that works. I'm typically surprised when I read about you guys who have working reversers. I've bought 1 running and 3 parts machines and only 1 had a complete reverser which might work. I've know of several 420's where they did not work. Seems po...

440 Hydraulic Upgrade

I've had my 440 since 2004. Way back then I took the entire tractor apart except for the transmission and engine. Had many years of occasional service out of it. Hydraulics were always touchy though. Frequently lost suction at front pump and the valve was plain wore out...blade would drop without wa...

Re: jd440ic cam pump

presumably you made all new steel suction line to the pump and fitting? did you connect to the original tank and its fitting? or fix that too? New tank. Eliminated the original completely. New adapter was made out of brass (for ease of machining) and yes using copper washer with it. No steel tube a...

Re: jd440ic cam pump

Hi, I've been following your thread and have had similar problems with that compression fitting on the cam pump. On my 440 I have a cam pump and a pto pump driving a hydraulic winch. The pto pump has a dedicated tank on the fender holding about 8 gallons. I was going to do away with the small tank a...

I did not think you would have reached that space very easily through that door. Thanks Lavoy. Next question. Currently I have a pto powered pump I've used to run the winch. I am going to do away with the winch and mount a Bradco 511 backhoe. I'm thinking of removing the pto pump to enable mounting ...

Nose mounted hydraulic tank on 440?

When the 440 has the hydraulic tank mounted behind the grill how does it get filled? I have not seen one completely assembled and I don't see how you would fill it. Did the loaders have a nose with a door in it for filling?

Thanks.

I have not spoken with the seller. Too far for me to look at so I have no idea what it needs. Really have decided I want to find a 350.

Its not terrible but not good either. Nose is cracked. Dash cracked. Hood destroyed. Tracks are not bad but the track frames are pretty bad. For just a short while I considered fixing it before I decided best to harvest parts from it.

Saved a 440

Brought home a sad 440 this weekend. Tried to buy it for parts 10 years ago but the guy was going to fix it...Tried him again this winter and he said yes. Pretty beat but it has some good parts on it. Supposed to have a rebuilt reverser before the engine got stuck years ago. Clutches are completely ...

I agree a 350 with a power six-way would be ideal. They start around 5k and regularly bring over 10k here. Not as easy to work on as the little 440. Certainly a more capable machine. I know exactly what I have with my 440. Since it needs an overhaul anyway I was considering the Detroit. Noisy yes---...

It is a late 440. Has the large 5 speed transmission and later 1010 style final drives. The knock does go away as soon as the oil pressure comes up. They sure are easy starting engines. I owned a work boat for years with a 6-71. Always loved how simple the engine was. It did leak its share of oil th...
