examine sparkplugs
examine plugs for dings, particles, or metalic looking scrapes,,, they might tell you more than you think... if you like fishing,,, stick one of those grabby-wire picker things in the hole and see if you can get a nibble....

eric, from what you have described,, you have a blower seal out. the 2-53 is notorious for the "over-rev and pop" and sounds like you should pull injectors for a cleaning too. you made the right decision for $500. find a deere dealer or another mechanic familiar with 2-53 detroits and where he gets ...

YEEEEDOGGIE!!! what was ya doing , taking the shortcut to the mailbox? find some scabby old car tires and slip the edges right into the spaces on the pads,, the rubber gives when it has too and if you tear one off, stick on another,,, you'll have the best paddle-wheeler in the county... don't forget...
