4276
I would be a little concerned about adding more power, the rest of the drive train (tranny, steering clutches) might not stand up. The 4276 should have adequate power, best to get it working and see how it performs. We have ran into a problem on one of our 350C widepads by installing a newer style 3...

4th gear
I have personally never run a deere in 4th gear. Was told at 6 years old that it should only be used for emergencies only. Very tough on the undercarriage and the rest of the tractor. Just my thoughts, anyone else have an opinion on this.

450C Is my Choice
I have had all models of 450's up to and including the G's and a couple of 550's. I really like the 550 for the extra power, we used them as tow tractors on the front of our vibratory cable plows. A 450 would not work in this application as it is direct drive. My main concern on the 550's is the cos...

Inside Bolts
Did you get the two bolts from the bottom inside of the steering clutch case to the final drive?
Just a thought.

Actually, we got it from a millionnaire whose wife made him get rid of some old toys before getting some new ones. They had just rebuilt the engine but did not put in a new rear seal, plus they forgot to put the o-ring in between the bell housing and the engine so it leaks both engine and transmissi...

350B widetrack - Factory Serial Number??
Here is a pic of a 350B we picked up at Ritchie Bros. It's serial number is 350BW - does this mean it was a factory wide track. Plan is to strip the widepad kit for our own use and convert back to a narrow pad machine. The outboard axle and bearing assebly are worth $1,500 if you need one in a pinch...

Depends on your budget
I personally like the C's the best, probably because we have had lots of them over the years. Althought, a 450E long track with 24" pads is a farily nice machine as well. I prefer the C to E machines as they have wet steering cluches, are cheap to run and fix, lots of parts available and very depend...

Extreme Use
On our wide pad 350's we weld most of the bolts in, rollers, rock guards, cross memebers. Front cross memeber and track frames are also welded. We do start out with all new high quality bolts and everything gets rethreaded or drilled and tapped out larger if necessary. We have two loader widepads eq...

Link Removal
Removing a link does not have an affect on the pitch of the track chain. The pitch is the same no matter how many links there are. The pitch on the chains gets longer as the rails wear (Internal and external), so if you are running worn out rails with new sprokets the sprockets will wear very quickl...

Missing Link
It is very easy to get worn tracks back on with a missing link. When I look at a used crawler to puchase, the first think I look at is the undercarriage. Namely the position of the front idler. If the idler is extended you know the tracks are worn. Also, if the idler is back and the tracks show wear...

Here is what i would do and in order.
1. Make sure that your hydraulic fluid is toped up to proper levels. 2. Check your filters, 450's are mounted in the tank. 3. Relief Valve, can you here it kicking out when you activate the loader hydraulic valve. 4. Check the main feed / supply line to your pump, it might be colapsed. Factory was m...

Deere winches
I was always under the impression that a deere winch was interchangable between a 440 and 540A skidder to 450's up to and E and 550's up to a B. We have never run into problems with selling a guy a skidder winch to mount on a crawler. I have also never noticed any speed differences between running a...

Late straight 350
I believe that the power assist steering was available on late mode straight 350's. Nice option as the steering cluch levers will be a little easier to pull.

Antique Auction in Southern Alberta Canada
I shouldn't be telling anyone about this auction, but I can't buy them all... Check out this estate auction on July 16th by Bodnarus Auctions, looks like a nice straight collection. http://www.farmauctionguide.com/cgi-bin/guide.cgi?sec=v&type=c&loc=SK&by=state&id=bodnar&anum=1305230718 I will be att...

Square Nuts
The square nuts were made to match up to indentations in the rails. I prefer the square nuts even if the rails don't match. There are also both large and small square sized nuts. I use a large screw driver or small pry bar to jam in between the nut and the rail. Once you have the bolt fairly tight t...
