Re: To buy or not to buy

For 4,500 I would already own it. Engine and Dozer assembly are worth that in Alberta Canada. You might get a functional 350 or 450 for $10K, but they are far and few between and will mostly likely need frame, cross member and/or track work. We are getting close to out of 350C and 450C parts as ever...

Re: 1010 roller rock guard

My dad is always fussy about the length of bolts used in the track frames. The original bolts are only long enough to make it thru the track frame. Longer bolts corrode and often twist off when you try and remove them down the road. Great to see your fixing it right. We always pull the track frame a...

Re: 350B reverser

All straight 450’s have a floor mount shifter, almost all are the normal shift under power HLR. There are some that came with a standard shift HLR, only seen one and its in our shed. On the last straight 450 Dozer we fixed, we installed the newer style shifter on the battery box as they are much nic...

Re: People,People,People

I see this all the time where people list items for sale, there are 2 types - those that make an honest mistake - those that know better and intentionally misrepresent it You are in the first group. You may want to list the year in the future. The prospective buyer thought there was a D series machi...

Re: 350 TRACK ROLLER BOLTS

Field repair is to weld the rollers in. Best to remove the track frame, flip it upside down and remove the bolt.

Re: 550 radiator and transmission cooler

Can you taste antifreeze in the oil? We have continual problems with moisture in 450 and 550 transmission that are not related to the cooler.

Re: I won't say no, but it is not a Deere.

You can always pull start it once you get some warm spring weather. Best to replace the sock type fuel filters, we have had trouble in the past on old caterpillars with them. If you are going to change the starting motor make sure the magneto is working before you install the starting engine. Starti...

Re: 2018 Is Off to a Good Start (Sarcasm)

We found that 350's even with a tank style coolant heater, good batteries, ATF in the reverser and lots of either only started down to about -30 degrees Celsius. Where as a 450C will start without either plugged in at any temperature due to the dry clutch. I have a 450C at home that starts at minus ...

Input Shaft On A 420

We are in the process of fixing the transmission on a nice 420 with the inside mount Dozer. Second gear was noisy and we we pulled the transmission it appears to have just been assembled as some assembly grease was still present, however they didn't put a pre-load on the PTO shaft. This came from a ...

Re: starting 450 after 15 years

We prime motors with high pressure oil with a 12V electric hydraulic pack before starting an engine that has sat for some time. We buy lots of non running equipment for wrecking and rebuilding and is not often we can't save the rotating assemblies. If you pull injectors make sure you blow out all of...

Re: How does this thing work?

A 455G has a 4 speed forward and reverse power shift transmission that can be fully shifted without use of the clutch. Oil fill and check dipstick are one in the same and is located behind the side access trap door on the outside rear right of the machine. Just bought a 98 450G Dozer with a sticky p...

I'm thinking you have a 453 in that Clark skidder, you might want to check. 53 series is smaller bore but higher rpms than the 71.

Re: Cheap Winch

I'm a bit of a purist so anything other than a Deere winch would be troublesome for me. You do look to be a hell of a worker. Hope you can continue as looks like you enjoy doing it. I've have not pulled much wood but have had lots of seat time on a 540A skidder we used for clearing ROW's, ripping ah...

Re: Cheap Winch

My guess is you will be looking for a back cover for your transmission when your winch drive shaft explodes. It's not made to take any force sideways or in and out. If you invested in a proper winch and arch you would be so farther ahead in terms of productivity and efficiency -which makes you more ...

Re: Steering problems 350b

Before we built out pin press, we removed a few pads (4 is best) and then lined the master pin up on the rear upward 10 or 2 oclock on the final drive and then cut a piece of pipe that just fits between the final drive housing and the master pin (large enough for the master pin to clear). We then us...
