Quills?
I'm no expert but when you say quills are you talking about the final drive assembly. this includes the steering clutches. I just took mine off and there are 2 bolts under the transmission that are easy to miss. that makes 8 bolts.

McMaster boot fit great
The boot arrived from McMasters (part number 5298K78) and it fit great. I had to remove a bit of the flang to reduce the extra material where it fastened on the final drive housing, but it fit like it was made for my 420 crawler. starter polarity
Several years ago I converted my old 6 volt Furgason tractor and 6 volt John Deere 420C from positive ground to a 12 volt negative ground with no conversion to the original starter. The only difference is they start much better. The reason that works is because they are not permanent magnet motors. ...

I am trying to locate replacement dust covers for the steering clutch area where the brake rods exit the housing. Mine have totally rotted away and when it rains, water and dirt flow down the rod, through through the opening into the clutch housing and has contributed to the rusting of the steering ...
