Pellets

Paul, it is not really cheaper no, but a lot more convenient. I burn 1 1/2 bags a day when we are home and it heats the house nicely to 72 or so. Stove is centrally located and I have an open stairwell that lets the heat go upstairs, 2000 square foot house. I buy the pellets on sale at Menards. The ...

Wood Pellets in a wood stove

Anyone burning wood pellets in their woodstove? I have been for 2 years and was wondering if any else has been. Thanks, Tom.

Reverser

The reverser is really a simple device quite ingenious. However the weakness was the tabs on the clutch disks getting sheared off. This was not only caused by shifting the reverser with out clutching but also by letting the pressure to engage the clutch pack to get too light and the clutch slip unti...

Lavoy, is the air cleaner an after market? The chrome oil gauge ups the price for sure. Nice find. How much are you asking? Tom

Soot

Unburned fuel that ends up as soot will come out as sparks, impressive at night for sure. Both of mine do it if they are left to idle for long periods. Tom

Oil Pan

Bought a 440 in Wisconsin once kind of sight unseen. I drove up there in the winter to get it almost to Lake Superior. Loaded it and headed out terrible weather all the way home. I left it on the trailer for a month. Weather got nice and decided to change the oil. Reached under the pan and no oil pl...

I wonder why the 440 is not listed as a crawler loader? Tom

Crawler

Not saying that it is worth the money, but it is saying something when a 53 old piece of iron is still running. I would say it had its wheels ran off for most of its life. The loader is worn out and the tracks have been replaced and they are worn out too. Maybe saw service in a Township quarry. If t...

weld

7018 would be the preferred rod. I would use 3/32 around 80 - 90 amps to start. You will have to grind. I would bevel it at 35 to 45 degrees so you can get at least 1/3 of the depth welded. Multiple passes, stringers if you will. Let the ram cool after you make a full pass. If you can stick it in a ...

I'm interested, but Maine is just a little too far. I have my eye on 2 in Wisconsin right now. I think it would be a good deal. Tom.
