shop press

hi Lowly, in my shop and most of the shops i've visited , a 20 ton press will handle pretty much all the general press needs. i'm not sure but i think most track presses are 50-100 ton. i've tried doing track pins on a regular press, very scarey! in my opinion, the extra cost of a huge press just to...

gearmatic 8a vs. electric winch

thanks tigerhaze for leading me to those threads! very informative! i think a good alternator would supply enough current to run the winch but all those amps would make way too much heat for my intended use. so i think electric winch is out of the picture. the hydraulic type may hold promise but i'l...

gearmatic 8a winch

jason, thanks for taking the time to reply! i kinda thought they would be scarce and pricey. now i have to decide whether i want to go with a gearmatic or an electric truck-type utility winch (my crawler is already 12 volt). i'll save your info. thank you! randy from michigan

420 tracks

hi willyr, my 40c had case tracks on it (I bought it like that) but I didn't know it until I went to replace them. I used it for 10 years like that and only threw a track once (it was my fault). However, the chain never meshed well with the rear sprocket (it was always climbing up the teeth and I ju...

3-bottom plow on an mc crawler

hi Denis, my mt tractor pulls 2-14's nicely but 3-14 in heavy ground would be pushing it. if you only have a small area to plow then give it a try, if it seems to be laboring too much then you'll have your answer. i think the mc would be happier with a 2- bottom in heavy ground, but maybe some other...

I have a 40c 4-roller with a brush cage and a 4-way hydraulic front blade. I just put new 350 chain on it with the slightly used 420 sprockets and that has worked out great. I added 2 hydraulic cylinders to make the blade have power angle. I'll post some pictures later ( I'm a little older and just ...

40c pins and bushings

I found Lavoy's chart on undercarriage parts cross reference, so I got most of my ? answered. Thanks Lavoy and Paul! The old owner said this crawler was a 420 but the tag on the center tube says 40c serial #65 thousand something. They said the engine had been changed. I wonder if the center section wa...

40c pins and bushings

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum. After 15 years the pins and bushings on my 40c are giving up. I believe it has 420 sprockets. The chain has 4 bolt/rivets per pad and are 14 inches with grousers. From reading the posts on the forum are these chains from a 1010? Are the pin and bushing dimensions th...
