hydraulic pto
Hi, Stan did you just get up from your nap? He doesn't have a pto shaft. That's why he wants to go to a hydraulic pto. At least I think that is what he is asking in his post. Good luck on your project! Randy from Michigan.

420c rear sprockets
Hi everyone! I'm looking for a pair of worn- out rear sprockets for a 420. I need the centers to weld to my 350 sprockets to complete my conversion ( my 420 sprockets are too nice to cut up and will be available later if someone needs them). Lavoy didn't have any so I thought I'd see if anyone else ...

crawler upgrades
Hi Mark, good story and neat (simple) upgrade! Pain and fear can be good motivators and can get the creative juices flowing! I too find myself not using the jd parking brake on my crawler and wheeled tractors because they can be very inconvienent. One upgrade that I feel is a necessity for any crawl...

Hi Rowcrop, the cones in my brackets were also worn, so I bored them out and made a steel bushing and pressed it into the bracket so it fit the new axle. There is a set screw or bolt in the bracket that fits into a dimple in the axle to prevent it from spinning. The idler wheel itself has replacable...

40c tracks
hi Pete, my 40c also had riveted pads on it when I first got it. We assumed they were Oliver but when I talked to a dealer for old Oliver crawlers he informed me that mine were Case. Lavoy is right, the longer pitch is hard on the sprockets if used for a long time. Good luck on your project! Randy f...

440 ic rebuild
hi boardrider 247, the chain and pads don't look too bad (can't see the bushings from the pics), but you will need to measure across 5 pins to check for wear ( there are posts on this site that explains how to do it). the front idlers are definetly getting thin ( on the flats where the chain rides)....

420 stearing adjustments
Hi Botieal! Sounds like you need to tighten up the brake bands (nut with the cross hatches), so the brakes will apply sooner and reduce your lever travel( so your not hitting the seat). Good luck! Randy from Michigan

shed floor
Hi Scottyb, just my 2 cents, but I'd go with about 5" of reinforced concrete for the shop floor and maybe just gravel for the storage area if you can't afford doing concrete throughout. I just don't think you'd be happy with a wood shop floor! You might consider using the wood for some tongue and gr...

40c blade slop
Hi Krusty, looking at your pics, the two large pivot points with the grease zerks ( one doesn't look too bad for slop but the other has a lot of forward and back slop), you could take a piece of heavy walled ( .250") pipe and cut a small moon-shaped piece and fit it into the large gap and weld it to...

40c blade slop
Hi Krusty! I rebushed my 40c blade a few years back but I have a lathe and mill so it wasn't too bad. Without those tools you need to make the male parts and the female counterparts round again with minimal clearance. To do that you can use say .125" wall seamless tubing ( or .250" wall if you have ...

Hi Tigerhaze! I have the luxury of a lathe so I can make my own drivers if I need an oddball size. You can use heavy-wall pipe with the proper Od. if you can find it, or you can use a 3/4 drive socket of the proper od. ( although I usually don't like to beat on my sockets if I can help it!) Good luc...

350 front idlers
Hi Carolina, what I did on my front idlers was to build up the inner and outer flat areas with flat stock. Use 3/16 or what ever thickness you feel you need. Just lay it on the flat and tack weld and keep hammering and tackiing all the way around, then finish weld to complete the job. Good luck on y...

40c track adjuster nuts
hi AllenS, I also have a 40c and experienced the same problem as you are having. Looking at your picture of the left side of your machine, the adjuster nuts are to the rear of the front idler as mine were. In that position you can't raise the blade high enough to get the arm out of your way! After l...

hi fictional! If I remember correctly, on my mt tractor that shaft has a spline in the coupler and the pin just prevents it from decoupling when you split the tractor at the bellhousing. The splines were worn in mine so I replaced the shaft. Since your almost there, you may want to remove the center...

450B fix or sell?
Hi srshaw3, sounds like your in a difficult situation! I'll through in my 2 cents. Sounds like you only have a few small projects you want to complete then sell the dozer. I'd start by getting a local contractor over and show him what you want and give you a price. It may surprize you one way or ano...
