Dumb problem --easy fix

This morning I was using my 420 loader to drag some junk cars out of the pasture so the scrap guy could make them disappear. (When my kids were in high school, they never traded in their cars, they just parked them down behind the barn -- now it's up to old dad to clean up the pasture.) As I was dra...

I experienced the same symptoms with my 420c -- would start, run for a minute then die. Had to leave it sit for a couple of minutes before it would start then die, etc. I thought it was a classic case of gas line problem but couldn't find a problem in the fuel system. I replaced the ignition condens...

Under carriage useful life?

How does one determine how much useful life is left in the undercarriage? I have about 3 1/2 inches of adjustment left for the front idlers on my 5 roller 420c loader. Do I have a problem based on that? What do you measure to be able to arrive at a statement such as " 50% life left in the bottom"?? ...

420c steering brake

Thanx JD40C -- that was exactly my problem -- the clutch was not disengaging before the brake locked up. I spent a half hour and adjusted both the clutches. Now it works just fine. Fortunately, I got the shop manuals and operators manuals with the machine when I bought it from the estate auction --'...

420C Steering Brake

On my 420C with loader, the rightside steering clutch engages / disengages normally, but when making a sharp right turn, engaging the right track brake almost stalls the engine. The brake will lock up the right track but would kill the engine if I contine to pull back on the right brake. The left tr...

420C Roller Grease fittings?

What do you call the grease filttings on the rollers of a 420C? The manual references a "special grease gun furnished with the tractor". Where can I get an adaptor for a grease gun that will fit these fittings? I just bought my 420C with a 90 loader & scarifier at an estate auction. It had been sitt...
