do not mess with it even tandem axle c 65 game with as single master and single line to all the wheels in the late 70's . they still pass safety here in Canada as long as its factory and the park brake functions

Not sure if you have checked this , but I make sure the engine turns freely. May not even be a starter issue could be something as simple as the hyd pump pressuring up and not letting the starter rotate the engine. I haven't had too many defective starters. Just an idea

The shop i work in we have a concrete floor and regularly bring in a komatsu d65 dozer and a couple komatsu pc 220 excavators for maintance and the floor holds up well.

around here we use excavator with a twist bucket for pretty much everything the twist ability makes the machine more useful
