Thanks for the comments iron popper. The bolts were a pain, had to heat most of them and then there were about 5 per side that broke. (Those are the bolts that hold the rock guards that is). The bolts for the rollers came out easier but some still needed heat. Didn't break any of those but one strip...

Hey guys, I've run into a bit of a problem. I got the undercarriage tore nearly completely down (pics below). I took some of the rollers off because 1. they are shot and 2. they are full of dirt inside. I got one roller to come apart and cleaned up but the others I've not had the same luck. I'm tryi...

Looks good Mark. Gives me ambition to get mine finished. I'm working slowly on it. I'm sure the question about this being a 1961 will come up soon, from what I understand the 440 ran from 58-60. There should be a tag with the serial number on the lower part of the dash, around the engine shut off. T...

Looks like you are making steady progress like the rest of us. Let me know the difficulty of getting those broken bolts out. I think I'm going to have to take one side of my crossbar off due to loose/broken bolts and am dreading it. When I took my rock guards off I think I had about 5 bolts break on...

Yep I agree completely. After I looked at the diagram more I noticed my rear line was in the wrong hole (if I remembered where my lines were correctly, I'll look the next time I'm at the garage). I'm not sure why I noticed that when I did, because I've looked at your pics a hundred times. Well hope ...

Hey JD440, I just noticed looking at your pictures that my oil line fittings and oil pressure gauge are in different holes than yours. Mine has an oil line where you have the oil pressure line and my oil pressure gauge is where your oil line is. Then my rear oil line is in the lower front hole, wher...

I'd have to agree with Gil and jt also. There has been a lot of welding and repair on those finals and other places. I would not want to redo a crawler with finals welded back together. I understand wanting to redo it since it was in the family. I'm in the same position and have had to buy more part...

I agree with popper. I'm in the same position, I have some pics in the show and tell section. $1000+ for the engine $1000 for new fibers, steels, T/O bearing in the finals. I put all new bearings in the tranny, and both finals and have probably close to $500+ after getting the JD gaskets and such. T...

I somewhat agree with Gil. I ran into this problem as well and ended up putting mine at somewhere about 6". I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that the service manual references the earlier (more common) final drive that is about 3/4" narrower at the axle flange than the very late final drive u...

It took me a second to figure out what you meant by the HY47N. That would be my Dad's 48 Ford coupe. It's probably his favorite car. The unique part about it is that it has a 350 chevy with 4-speed and related chevy running gear. It definitely turns some heads. Also in the garage, but not pictured i...
