Well I'm not saying its the right thing to do but my grandpa ran heating oil in his 1010 numerous times.
Not sure if its hurting it or not but it still runs good.

More than likely the bearing is gone for your axle. You'll be needing bearing and cup for each end of the axle, seal for axle retainer, shim kit for axle, bearings for the upper pinion shaft and shim kit for it as well.
That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
Its gradually getting close to paint time but I have a lot of sandblasting/cleaning to do on the big parts left (hood instrument panel, etc.)

Some more great pics. Shimming all those and putting it back together is fun. It took me a few times when I put everything in for the final time. I'm pretty sure it all only goes one way. If its wrong one thing hits something else. It probably would have been easier if I was the one that took it apa...

Hey Iron Popper,
I actually cut my own shims for what your talking about but it was a major pain.
I just redid the finals and all the shims were available from the JD dealer. Not sure if the site your talking about accesses JD inventory but you might check the dealer directly.

Wanted: 440 Seat parts

I took the seat for my 440 apart today and the tracks that it slides back and forth on are shot.
I thought about reparing them but they are too far gone. Does anyone have a pair they would want to part with that are in decent shape?
I'm not sure if it matters but its for a deluxe seat.
Thanks

Great pics Iron popper. Those are definitely some chinsy repairs. I was in the same boat with the bull gear splines as you. Mine was a little worse, when I pulled the axle out there were no splines left on the bull gear, they just broke apart. I never tore the other side apart to see how they were, ...

Hmm, thanks for posting that.
Where yours has that pipe plug below the rubber elbow mine is an open hole, but is threaded.
I'm wondering if that being open was causing the intermittent runaway problem. Doubtful but it still needs blocked off.
Is that where your saying you spray starting fluid?

Hey jd440 I'm not seeing the blower pics now for some reason. Could you rehost them please unless its a problem on my end. I have something I want to check. I noticed on my blower today there is about a 3/8 hole just below where the rubber elbow connects on the blower. I assume this is where the lat...

Thanks for the replies. I was leaning toward what you guys are saying. Assemble trans, final, steering housings and possibly engine and paint all that. Then piece paint the other things like seat, fenders, etc. You guys answered my other question as to whether you brush painted or sprayed. Sounds li...

Dozer Painting

Hey guys, This is my first dozer restoration and I'm getting close to starting the paint process. From you guys' experience, what is the easiest? Assemble part of it (Finals, Steering clutch housing, tranny, motor) and paint all that together and paint sheet metal and put that on. Or paint each piec...
