Re: 350 diesel running rough and smoke
I really can't tell if it is one cylinder that is not running right. I do not remember seeing a sight glass on the pump but I may have missed it. I am assuming it will be on the outside of the pump under some type of cover. I am on my way to Washington as on guardian for a 97 year old WWll veteran g...

350 diesel running rough and smoke
I have an early 350 that I ran today for the first time this year and after about 3 hours it lost power and was running rough. It also started to smoke more than normal. I checked the diesel fuel and it was down below 1/4. I thought it might have been starving for fuel so I filled it and it started ...

Loud clunk in tracks
I have a straight 350 that I installed chains and read drive spockets about three years ago. I did not use the crawler much since then. I now have a project going and I have a loud clunk that comes and goes in the tracks. It does not do it all the time but seems to be worse after turnings tight or g...

Loader Filter
If you are referring to the filter that is located in the tank under the right hand arm rest you simply remove the bolts that hold the filter cover and lift it out. There is a drain plug in the bottom of the tank so you can drain the oil first if you are changing the fluid.

No do not need to pull the loader.
I just got done rebuilding a diesel 350 and you do not need to pull the loader, I did remove the bucket to make it much easier to remove the engine. Once you have the bucket off, pull the front cowl which is very heavy like everything else on the crawler. Remove the hydraulic pump and radiator. Once...

What should be done to crawler for winter storage?
I know you warm weather guys will probable say move south but some of us actually like the cold and snow. That being said I don't know that the old 350 likes it as much as I do so I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation on what to do going into winter. Last year I had a rusted out muffler and...

350 loader fluid level
I have a straight 350 with a loader which I changed all fluids in a year ago. My question is should the oil be in the sight glass when the bucket is resting on the ground with bucket level indicator showing? I notice on mine that with the bucket fully raised I can not see fluid in the sight glass wh...

350 Injector Pump
I posted about an issue I had this spring with water getting in my 350 diesel motor and having to rebuild it. I put cylinder's and pistons in it, had the head done and put it back together. When I went to start it an old problem with the starter plagued me so I pulled it and had it rebuilt. Everythi...

350 diesel engine rebuild
A month or so ago I found out my 350 muffler had rusted out which allowed water to get in the cylinders. I pulled the engine and when I pulled it apart found it had ruined all the cylinders. I took the engine to a friend of mine who owns a machine shop and had them clean the block and redo the head....

Bent Rod
Well my trouble do to my muffler rusting out and water getting into the motor has gotten worse. I got the pistons out of the cylinders after letting them soak with PB Blaster but found out I have a bent #1 rod. I looked on the JD sight and it shows trouble ordering the rod but it does show a replace...

Well I did get all of the pistons out tonight. I had let PB blaster sit in the cylinders for a day and I was able to us a trimmed down 4x4 and pound on the pistons and they moved. I then unbolted the rods and was able to get them out fairly easily. The cylinders are shot as are the pistons and rings...

Well I pulled the pan and other than more sludge than I would like there is no other sign of water in the pan. I have been letting it sit with PB Blaster in the cylinders but still have not been able to get the pistons to move in the liners. Does anyone know of a good way to get them to move other t...

Duke I do not know the true hours or the history of the crawler. I am thinking the same thing since I have the engine out it may be time to turn the crank and replace the cam. The old girl ran like a top other than the issue with the starter not engaging which still really puzzles me since the ring ...
