Here are some pics so if anyone is ever in the same predicament: Here's the pulled with the bolts threaded into it. I was able to put one carriage bolt in backwards so the head will be pressing on the housing instead of the threaded end: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b60/m62065/DSCF1723.jpg Clam...

No kidding, QUITE the relief! I got the new shaft in and injection pump bolted on. Not much left to put back- I have 2 of the 3 injector line banjo bolts hand started and the 3rd I'll save for last when it has new fuel running to it, I was able to crank the engine and get a tiny squirt from the inje...

WooHoo, got it out! I used a bearing splitter that I clamped over the shaft and was able to get a purchase on the grooves where the umbrella seals go. I took pictures of everything, I'll post them later so if anyone in the future is trying to figure out how to do it this is one more option. Of inter...

Taking a 350 nose off is not that hard. Build a tripod out of small trees lashed together to hold a hoist or come-along and center it over the radiator hole more or less. Take up tension and remove the bolts. The tripod can be "walked" to get radiator clearance and the nose can be tipped out of the...

Thanks Stan, I took a hot soaker bath tonight and pondered a bit more on it, and it occurred to me that I might be able to press it out. I'll take the front cover plate and use that as a pattern, cut a piece of steel with some holes that match the tapped holes in the timing cover and then just weld ...

Hi all, The original pump seized and sheared off the end of the driveshaft, so in addition to replacing the injection pump I have to replace the driveshaft as well. Fortunately there is a small cover on the front of the timing cover, when you remove that you can get to the 7/8" nut that holds the sh...

350C injection pump driveshaft being stubborn
Hi all, The injection pump driveshaft on my 350C is not being too cooperative with a removal. I have the small access cover off, oiled the shaft on both sides and have tried some side-tapping with a small hammer but with the radiator and hose still attached I haven't been able to give it any direct ...

When I did mine I did not have to use the diode, I just hooked it to the earlier wiring that energized with the switch. The ONLY reason that diode is there is if it is wired directly into the ignition circuit. If it is then what happens is that wire generates charging voltage when the alternator is ...

I'll chime in too on the "might be too cold" option. If you have a torpedo style space heater you can toss a tarp over the crawler and stick the snout of the heater under the tarp and let it run for an hour or 3. If the tarp isn't big enough to cover the entire machine then just cover the motor with...

a bit of a tangent... but any thoughts to gas vs diesel as far as power? I know the diesel is harder starting and usually longer lasting. I have a 350 straight and food for thought.... if I find a decent diesel engine for a good price, how hard would the conversion be? (assuming lift pump and secon...

On the last day before retirement, 2 mechanics replaced the right side clutches and left before even checking to see if it was working. There might be a clue there the problem was misdiagnosed from the start. As suggested, I'd check the work to see if it was all done properly but there is a possibi...
