I did clean up an old carb I had from 420IC and put it on as a test. I havn't had a chance to adjust it yet but it seems as though the problem still exists. Not so much now as it is not hunting as it was because the governor is unhooked. (Carb wasn't meant for this tractor). It will not idle slow wi...

440 ic backfiring

Thanks Stan; I will take your advice and pick up a pair of new plugs. I did use a 12 volt battery for the light and set the timing full throttle with the "spark line" even with the bottom edge of the peep hole as I understand the manual to describe the setting. I will be having another go at the car...

440 IC backfiring

Problem is with the engine, after 50 years who knows the history, but it doesn't want to run without some choke and it backfires like hades....especiall at lower rpms. It did get up to 2000 rpms..... Had a good day today, cleaning up clutch and pressure plate parts. Took a few pressure plates apart and lightly refaced a couple in the lathe. they look great. I'm working on 420 finals for my MC and I have no less than 2 parts donor machines, so a lot of pieces to choose from, I'm old but just a re...

Thank you Tigerhaze, Yes, I think Lavoy probably has the gauge, but it is about two weeks away and a bunch of canadian bucks to boot. Surely someone knows the measurement, surprised the JD manuals don't spell it out, not that I could see anyhow..

420 C pressure plate panic!!!

Hi all; Can anyone tell me the setup dimension (depth of throat) for the tool to set up the steering clutch pressure plate. I have seen a picture of it and there was a dimension of 2.012 in a thread somewhere but it may have been for the engine clutch. I am planning to build two clutch packs from sa...

Final drives

thanks for the prompt replies, good to know there are parts out there. Being on the usual "low budget", spread to thin, I think I will try to make the stuff I have here work, when time permits. Can anyone confirm that the M3444T is from a 40C?? Is there any market for a JD 90 loader with 2 buckets a...

Questions on MC to 440c

Hi all; Hope this isn't to long. I have a 1952 MC 75% restored and painted. It still needs a final drive on the left side. I probably have enough parts to build the drive except for a shaft and hub. This is a family crawler and I want to get her finished as a keeper / user. In the mean time i have a...
