Re: 450C "Milky" engine oil
Thanks to you both for the helpful replies. I've received the new aftermarket head gasket and will check its thickness, but so far it looks like high quality. Of course, the only way to make it rain in drought ridden CA is to open your engine outside, so having some delay in the repair. I'm currentl...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
Just sent you a PM. I wish to chat with you.
I've replaced three sets of tracks, and recently solved a tough track pin removal problem.
Agree, "Trackman" (Spokane) were very helpful folks.
Great job on the rebuild.

Re: troubleshooting/operation of ripper 450b dozer
I just sent a "very late" reply to your PM.
Let me know if you don't find it, or of you still have the problem.

450C "Milky" engine oil
Are the cylinder o-rings normal neoprene? How does one determine if they are leaking? Can they be changed "in chassis" by dropping the oil pan? Are cylinder liners removed for this service? Background: Radiator pressure test showed slow but noticeable leak - 5 lbs. drop after 5 minutes. (Aside: perf...

Re: 3325 WINCH input shaft seal replacement issue
Thank you Jim, All good advice and lovingly taken. The winch is my lowest priority, and I will wait until I get the proper parts as you suggest before proceeding further. As an aside, I originally searched JD 3325 Input Shaft Seal and YTs listing came up. I'll send a note to them about the discrepan...

Re: 3325 WINCH input shaft seal replacement issue
Mine came from Yesterday's Tractor Company #70241779 "JD PTO Shaft Seal" on the invoice. I.D. 1.130" O.D. 2.127" Solid rubber seal without the usual spring. It looks like the I.D. will work on the 1.375" shaft. It looks like it will also fit through the I.D. of the bearing race (measured at 2.133"),...

Re: 3325 WINCH input shaft seal replacement issue
Hi Jim, I appreciate your input. The seal on order came up on a google search "Input shaft seal for JD 3325 winch." It supposedly replaces quite a few other seals on the machine as well. I got the seal's O.D. dimension from the web listing, and then measured my bearing race with a caliper where it s...

Re: 450C intermittent track power
Edited with additions: Monday May 11, 2020 Hi Jim, thank you for checking in. I definitely have a "C"; my "B" (that I've previously re-clutched) is sitting right next to it. My manual is "John Deere 450C Crawler" - TM1102 -Technical Manual. I also have the corresponding parts manual. I will review ...

Re: 450C intermittent track power
Thanks rufustoad, I'll try to post some pix of my process. I have removed the left steering clutch cover, there is plenty of oil, the space seems very clean and almost pristine (compared to the rusty disaster of my 450B clutch packs). I ran the engine and activated the left steering lever as Todd su...

Re: 450 c 3325 winch
If you need to remove your winch as I just did, I connected a small, affordable, and well worth the price, 1 ton differential hoist to the ROPS and had easy control of the weight. Obviously a "come-a-long" would also work but with more lifting effort and less "fine". control. "Once I got it loose fr...

Re: Location information
I seem to recall that the time zone for GMT is on the "PRIME MERIDIAN," probably from Grade School, ugh. I think it would also be 0 degrees longitude.

Re: 450C intermittent track power
Hi Todd, Wow, what an awesome hint, I'll check for that today. And thanks for the nice simple explanation for the common vent issue. I have no trouble seeing the very obvious dimple, its just that all the pins in the chain have the same dimple. Sounds like the start of a "whodunit" movie. Hopefully ...

450C intermittent track power
Wow, its been 10 years since I left 60 acres of treed tractor heaven in North Idaho, where I had ample reasons to share the company of fellows here on the board, and moved the tractors to Napa, CA where there isn't much tractor work on my 0.6 acre plot of pavement. (I am available "for hire" to tear...

3325 WINCH input shaft seal replacement issue
Issue: replace leaking seal. I removed the quill that holds the input shaft. Pressed inside the quill is the seal (AT14831) and pressed on top of that is the bearing cup (JD8230). Problem: It appears that the outside diameter of the seal is just a bit bigger than the inside diameter of the cup. It l...
