JD 2010 Gas
When I changed an 8N Ford over to 12 volt, I had to install a diode or it wouldn't shut down. It seems like you can also use a low wattage bulb. I think I robbed the diode out of an old GM alternator.gregjo1948

A DD mechanic told me years ago; To drive a truck with a DD, you first need to slam your hand in the door to achive the correct attitude. gregjo1948

440 ICD air leak
How volatile is brake cleaner? Aerosol propellant is explosive and may be finding a path to your intake. I would think the slightest explosive mist around the intake of an engine with a blower, would be forced into the engine and creating a change in rpm. gregjo1948

I'm not too concerned with the engine now, but I would like to know what JD models have interchangable undercarrage parts.( serial # 455664) How good is a chain, if I can make a circle with it on the shop floor? I can't afford new, so I'll be looking for used parts or even another machine for ...

WOW Lavoy :o ! If I'm understanding your info, I can run my baby Detroit at most any rpm without causing damage and expect more torque than the gas counterpart. I've had 3 420 loaders and 1 M on rubber and thought, for their size, they had ample torque. I'm anxious to play with my new toy. Thanks, g...

Thanks Guys for your Detroit input. The slow starting wasn't the cranking speed. It just seemed to crank a while before it started firing. I've had 2 Detroits before. 1- 475hp 2 stroke 8V92 and 1- 450hp series 60 4 stoke. Both were in road tractors and I liked both. The 475 hp 2 stroke had no luggin...

I picked up my new project. 440 ICD in need of a lot of TLC. I'll be needing help from you people for info and parts. I couldn't let it go to scrap or parts. Inside manual 6 way blade , 5 speed, reverser, and a gearmatic winch. Detroit started a little slow, even using starting fluid. I don't know i...

If you slide the short hoses onto the pipe first; Would it work? Could you start at the larger end with the correct diameter hose with the elbow that you need, and insert a smaller hose inside for the smaller diameter? gregjo1948

JD 440ICD intake hose
I'm not familiar with this hose but I have a thought. Could you use a piece of exhaust pipe the diameter of the small end, bent the 90 degrees you need, and stretch the other end to the diameter you need for the larger end? Using short pieces of hose on each end. Any auto repair or muffler shop coul...

The owner replied back to me and said the engine is a 420 but doesn't know, after I suggested it might be a MC, what the machine is. Don't the MCs have a tag on the dash stating the model? gregjo1948

I didn't know if they made a 3 roller 40C. That would explain the newer pads. Thanks, gregjo1948

There is a 420 on CRAIGSLIST in Leyden,NY. It has 3 rollers p/track and a single lift cylinder for the blade. It doesn't have the pressed steel pads. They are the newer type. Does this sound like a 420 or is it an MC or 40C with newer style pads? I thought the 3 roller machines were only MC. gregjo1...

Were you getting dark smoke from the exhaust? If you were, I would think carb problem. Float sticking or maybe set to high. If you weren't getting dark smoke and it was a temperature sensitive problem, I would think about electrical items. Duke may be correct about the coil or maybe the condenser. I...
