40c carb repair

I rebuilt carb with new kit, but it wont run on its own. I can keep it running with the help of starting fluid. anyone have any ideas. Carb was soaked for two months in cleaner. What would a replacement carb cost roughly? Does anyone out there rebuild these? maybe I missed something.

JD40c steering cluch ball bearings?

While completely getting a self taught lesson on JD 101, I notice that the 3 ball bearings that sit behind the throw out bearing cam are different on either side. Right side ball bearings are smaller than the left. I know some extensive work was done to this machine years ago, and then sat.... could...

Steering clutch fiber discs

Finally got the left side finals off and removed and cleaned up the fiber discs and steels. Question: these discs were new seven years ago, hardly used at all since then, but sat for those next seven years. I was able to clean up the discs to what I believe is satisfactory, but the steels are slight...

JD40c finals

Lavoy, Thanks for the info. on the finals. Tomorrow should be a great day if I can get the yolk made. New question. Any trick to getting the lugs off of the sprockets. Right side went well, noticing the it had 6 lugs(!/2"-9/16) and three (7/8). Thinking the other side would be as easy, I noticed tha...

JD40c Final drive case seperation

Tracks and sprockets are off, but I am having trouble with the draw bar hollow dowels, seems that I cant get the 5/8 cap screw in far enough to withstand the punch and hammer. Can these come out after seperation of case? Next- I noticed that there are two holes on the forward leading edge of the fin...

JD40C

Hi, I jacked up my JD40c and was surprised that the track plate pins were not as frozen as I thought. With a few well placed Hammer raps all but two (on the sprockets) seemed to surely be free enough to roll, so... What is a good way to attack stuck brakes or frozen clutch. I am a hair away from pla...

Hi guys, Unless this machine has been totally updated, I am lost. The JD 40C serial #(70826),On the left side of the gear box/engine block, indicates to me that is was built in 1955 but clearly has 5 rollers. Is this common? I know that it had extensive work to it before it sat for so long. Am I mis...

Dan, Thanks for the penetrating oil tip, that certainly would have been my first approach. What is the best jacking point. It seems that the square tubing extending outward from the tracks is the most centered and accessable point. Are they the rock guards? One sticks out about 8 inches past the tra...

JD40C

Help!!!! Got a 1955 JD40 crawler and need to figure out how to get it to roll so that I can get it into my shop for major repair work. It was tied to a tree and trailer pulled out from under it. I have no experience with crawlers but have just enough ambition to undertake a reasonable restoration. A...
